Default how to chose motors for your crawler?

hey,

i have noticed there is quite a variety of motors in the crawler market, coming from a dozens of different manufacturers; how do you chose which company to go with and how many turns you need?

the variety is quite refreshing coming from 1/8 scale electric where there only 2 different brands

thanks in advance

It depends. What wheel speed do you want? How much torque do you want? Lower turn motors will be faster and higher turns are more torque-y. Hand wounds are generally better but more expensive. Check out holmes hobbies for some nice motors

The type of vehicle also makes a HUGE difference...a Losi CC will require a much different motor than an XR10 or berg. What are you running?

I'm soon hopefully going to be running a xr10 with duel mamba micro pro. I'm not currently planning in entering competitions its gong to be more of a backyard crawler.

Thanks for your help

Toss another wrench in the mix..if you want more wheel speed, you can get it by going to higher voltage Lipo...some are using up to 4S.

It's really quiet simple. Go to Holmes Hobbies, pick up a 35t or 45t hand wound and a handful of pinions. You'll end up with one of the best motors around and plenty of gearing options to tune the wheel speed to where you want it.

Everyone likes a little different amount of wheel speed. You'll get a thousand different opinions on that. Trying different gears lets you tune it to YOU.

the holmes hobbies hand wounds are around $120 for two, the tekins are $60 for two.

im not going to be comp crawling just free crawling so have a motor which is slightly better is not needed.

Those $30 Tekins are not handwound. The Tekin PRO motors are handwound....and they are ~$65 each.

I have a 45T Tekin motor and it has never given me any problems. It works just like it should every time. Yes, they aren't as good as holmes hobbies, ect. in build quality etc. but Tekin motors get the job done great for us guys on smaller budgets. Then, when our $30 Tekin motors are worn out 2 years from now, we can upgrade.

Tekin will treat you fine.

I figured....but I was just making a clarification. You were comparing the price of two motors that are COMPLETELY different in quality.

i run 55T motor on my XR10, yeah, lots of torque, no wheel speed. im not a fan of going too fast or jumping over.

sure 55t wont destroy more gears as much slower T motors, just a bit too slow for me. get any 45T motor to try out, and go from there.
