good battery and charger combo for SCx10?

Hey all, i recently purchesd a scx10 rtr. was just curious as to what charger and battery combo i should run?? im not very good with electronics so any help is appricated.

im thinkn of a duratrax onyx 100 charger. i dont want to go lipos right away. whats the difference if any between NiCad and NiHM?

The Turnigy Accucell 6 is great charger for all kinds of batteries. You should be OK with either NiMhs or NiCds. I use 2400mah NiMhs in my losi crawler, and I see some guys at the comp using small LiPo packs, around 1800mah 2s.
When I bought my NiMh packs, I didn't know I could've gotten twice as many lipos for the same money.

+1 for the Accucel 6 and they are only around $25 + shipping. Another popular choice is the Thunder AC6 from hobbypartz. Is there any reason you don't want to go lipo right away? There are so many advantages to use them over nicd or nimh.

The DTX Onyx line is solid and proven.

If you go that route be sure to check out the new 235 which has a higher amp rating, a balance board, handles up to 4 cell Lipo and has a few other nice features, and it's only $10.00 more than the origianl 230:

As said, better to invest in a Lipo capable set up now, rather than have to replace your charger at a later date...you'll spend less money in the long run.

NiCd cells tend to have a bit higher voltage overall, however the memory issue is a drawback. They're pretty much considered old battery tech.

NiMH has no memory effect and they are quite a bit more reliable than NiCd.

Most feel that Lipo is a far better power choice however. The consitency of power, higher voltage and lighter weight make them ideal for RC applications. Additionally, the price point of Lipos is very competitive with good quality NiMH packs.

Lipo cells have the same power output from start to finish, wheareas NiCd and NiMH cells start to drop voltage from the moment they come off the charger.

ill eventually make the switch to lipos but for now the nicd & nihm will do.

When i do make the switch is the scx10 capable of running lipos? i heard the newer ones have the ae2 esc with has the lipo cutoff. but i also heard they have the older ae1 esc which isnt lipo freindly.

I run lipo 2 cell 1300mhn packs in my AX10 and they last about 30 mins. and are very light weight. I use a venom charger that i found on sale. It does all sorts of batteries.
