Will it work....YES.
Will it be ideal.....I will let others answer. I will say, it's a bit high in motor turns, but I'm not sure.

What battery (type & capacity) are you running?
Are you comping or just "for fun".?

Right now just trying to figure out a good water proof set up i know the traxxas esc is water proof and i was looking at their waterproof servo also. I know i can put my stock esc in a ballon as i can with my reciever to water proof them but im worried about it getting hot. I would like to end up competeing but right now im just getting in to the Scale rc's. Can you recommend a good set up for me please?

It will work fine, a XL-5 runs a 12 turn motor out of the box, a 55 turn motor is nothing for this ESC. If you want more wheel speed out of your scaler run a lower turn motor.

Will work great. Used to run the same setup in mine. Recently jumped to a 35t motor tho cuz I like to speed and rock hop.

I think that depends on home much torque your current one has. The Traxxas servo (trx2075) is a little low on torque (130oz I think) for the scx10 IMO. I'm currently running this servo and would like to upgrade.
