| Esc Help!!!!
I hope someone can help me out here ,First let me explain that I am in the middle of my very first after-market R/C build[up til now its been mostly Radio Shack/Nikko digital RTR gear] so rather than murdering new/expensive parts I bought an old traxxas Hawk2 roller on Ebay and plan to use it to learn a bit more about this type of gear before I try anything new. A friend gave me an Airtronics XL2P controller that needed to be repaired [figured out and done] and I have also picked up a parts lots from a fellow in Ontario[ canada] who was getting out of the hobby. The problem I have is that I have spent days [on the internet]trying to find out how to hook up iether of the two speed controllers that I received in the parts lot #1 is a Traxxas XL-2 and the second is a Hitec SP-0900 with no luck what-so ever, so I am posting where ever possible trying to find someone/anyone who might have an old manual or knows how to connect these two ESC. Question #2 is I heard from a friend [also an R/C rookie] something about having to remove one of the wires from the ESC to the receiver when running a receiver battery pack[my receiver is old - NO BEC!].So any help would be greatly appreciated !!! Also- wow!!!!!! you guys have one seriously awesome site going here -easy to sign up! and awesome trucks and KICK-AZZ CRAWLERS!!!!!! Keep a cool tool and don't let your meat loaf E-mail to smooch@sasktel.net[ Hey its my wife's P/C] Okay flame away.[NOT!!] Thanx guys!

I know where you're coming from - I just got started a few months ago and didn't know anything. I'll see if I can help you out, but there is no substitute for reading, searching and self-education. All ESCs connect the same way. Check out the manual for the Tekin Rebel 2 for a picture of how everything connects... http://www.teamtekin.com/Manuals/REBEL2%20MANUAL.pdf One problem with starting with used gear when you are a newbie is that there is no guarantee that everything is working properly. When you are not 100% sure of how everything is supposed to work, it can be really aggrevating to throw defective parts in the mix. |

thanks again to olllllo , the info from the Tekin site helped some-what but still leaves me somewhat confused on this Traxxas XL-2 , it doesn't have an off/on switch just one lone white wire.. I'm still totally in the dark about the disconnecting one wire from the esc when using a receiver battery pack . |

Not idea what the one white wire is. An ESC should have two large gauge wires for the battery connection, two more large wires for the motor connection, three wires connected to a receiver connector (red, white and black) and a couple more small wires (usually black) that go to an on/off switch. They also have one small short red wire (about an inch or so long) that goes to nothing. I have no idea what that wire is for. Like I said earlier about buying used gear. It's hard enought to figure it all out when you are a newbie if everything is new and as it is supposed to be. Used gear that may be defective just complicates it all that much more. Good luck. |

Hi guys. Ok I think I have figured out how to wire the receiver end of it and I now have acquired a newer receiver with BEC my next question is , do I need to connect a switch[off/on] to the receiver battery slot?
