Default Ultimate Noob Suspension question

I've been racing RC Cars (off road 1/10 electric) since the mid 80's. I did a trade not long ago and got some parts with it (including 2 Duratrax CC axles and some HPI wheely King parts). I'm trying to build something for my 3 year old to use because it's nice and slow on 2S lipo, a rooster reversible esc and the stock duratrax motors. My first question (because there will be more LOL) is how do you all get your suspensions to articulate the way they do. I've experimented with VERY lightweight oil in my shocks (don't have the duratrax shocks) I have 4" shocks with soft springs and light weight oil. The suspension is just way too stiff. It has full articulation, it's not binding on anything, it just feels the shocks are too hard for the truck (like running 80wt oil in an off road buggy for instance). Do I need to change the internals of the shocks to allow more flow? Also, how slow should the CC be on 2S lipo (20C)
