Oven cleaner works to strip anodizing off of metal (aluminum). I haven't done it myself so I can't recommend brands or technique but I've heard of tons of people doing it. Just google it!

ive used easy off oven cleaner with the yellow lid with some success, and heavy duty grease lightning which seemed to work better without all the bad fumes.

I used purple power degreaser, same as greased lightning. It worked great,it took about and hour,no fumes worked out very well.See my thread stock axial Ax 10 to fastbackII in the AX10 section for pictures. I ended up painting them metalic black.
I would stay away from harsh chemicals/cleaners.

Yellow top oven cleaner is fast and cheap. Can't let it sit too long or it will eat the aluminum and turn it grey.

The same goes for me too. The yellow top cleaner works best, I've used it on everything from chassis to links, to taking chrome off plastic parts. The Purple Power works great for removing paint from old hard bodies, send it to the PP bath..LOL

I just finished stripping the orange xr10 rings to put on xr10 wheels for my wraith. I used Easy Off oven cleaner heavy duty (yellow can yellow lid). I put the rings in a pyrex glass container where the rings all set flat for 20 minutes and pulled the rings out with needle nose pliers and scrubbed the rings on the outside with a toothbrush when done flipped them over and did the next one. When i got done with the outsides i pulled them out and did the insides. I rinsed the container w/ hot water until the oven cleaner was out of the bowl. I then scrubbed them on the outsides and insides with the toothbrush while rinsing with hot water and then dried them off. They came out perfectly stripped metal rings!
Thanks to all who responded to this thread.

Greased Lightning works on aluminum. Just submerge them for about 35 minutes then wipe em off.
