Just get some good quality 60/40 solder and you'll be good!

Also make sure to get the thin stuff, not sure the diameter but it's about 1mm (yeah, yeah, us canucks are metric). It'll be much easier to solder little connections when you have to.

most rookies get plumbing solder or the stuff labled "electronics solder" from the hardware store (even that stuff is like 1/8th thick, my friend swears by it, it's terrible), I used 60/40 rosin core .030, Radio Shack will have it.

Do NOT get plumbing solder (usually no internal flux and can be hard to get hot enough with an iron). Do NOT get acid core solder, it can eat circuit boards! RadioShack, decent hardware store, PC building store, etc. can all carry "electronics solder" which is usually thin rosin core solder. | |

The best solder I found is Deans Solder: Deans - Solder The Radio Shack stuff is ok, but you can tell the difference. |

Yup another one for 60/40 rosin core...Make sure you get it from an electronics place and you'll be golden. The stuff i use is from Jaycar here in Oz (same as radio shack). It's cheap, and works just as well as all the expensive stuff I've ever tried.

Deans and the Radio Shack stuff work good. Most people use too hot/too big of a soldering iron. Most of my RC soldering is handled with a weller 25 watt pencil style iron. I have a couple of butane irons for field repairs (If somebody else has needed it) and a 40 watt weller pencil iron for bigger stuff (NOT RC). A good soldering station(AKA 3rd hand) will save you a few blisters...ask me how I know |
