The Creeper is a good rig! The kit is pretty cheap and so is that Axial motor. Venom Creeper Comp Crawler Kit - Red so if your getting a good price go for it.

If you get it, read a lot in the Venom Creeper forum, a ton of ideas to help guide you along.

You will also want to swap the Tamiya connectors for something better, most use Deans.
Also think about removing the motor bullet connectors, they WILL give issues down the road.

that makes me laugh that it has a traxxas xl5. you ought to get a good 3s setup though. it will really help in tight spots which require extra oomph. i tried running 2s on my losi and it jjust never seemed powerful enough

no the xl5 is great for scalers and other applications but it has a 2s lipo limit. 3s lipo is pretty standard with crawling anymore

+1, I would start with a Castle Creations Mamba Micro Pro or Sidewinder Micro. Both are the same ESC, but the Pro has a heat sink (which can help) but is a little larger.
Both have great specs, great drag brake, can be programmed with a Castle Link (same link as needed for a CC 10A external BEC) and they are smaller than the XL5.

If you're going to get the rig wet, a waterproofed Holmes Hobbies BR-XL is an option. It also has great specs and also uses the Castle Link.

max pro will probably be a better idea since its a crawler and ive found my esc heats up alot more crawling than when using it in my 2wd buggy going full throttle.
