would 48 pitch gears hold up to crawling?

Yes... I use that pitch on both my TLT's. Never had a problem.

is it only when you crash and jump stuff do they strip?

A lot depends on how you run your rig.

If you've got your rig bound up in a spot where it just isn't going to be able to move, and you gun the throttle, somethings gotta give - And if your diffs are locked and you don't have a slipper clutch - the gears are the next in line.

Just use some common sense, and keep an eye on your rig. You'll learn when something is about to give.

They also strip when you have to much power or don't have your gear mesh set up properly. I didn't have a stripping problem until I went brushless. A few times it was my fault cuz the gears weren't meshing good enough. For the most part though,this thing will eat plastic gears like they are going out of style. I've got a little better set up now with my reduction box mount and it's ALOT better. I've also just installed a 53t delrin spur,so maybe it'll be somewhat stronger.
