Default Losi Night Crawler Upgrades?

This is in another thread because I'm trying to get as much help as possible. Just received my new Losi Night Crawler yesterday! I'm kinda new to rc crawling and wanted to do some upgrades on it but I don't know what to do first. It already has a Z590M high torque servo on it. So what would be the next best thing to upgrade on it? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

...and PLEASE adjust the settings on your camera. Looks like the contrast and/or sharpness are WAY off.

Are you using the camera on your iPhone? If so...there should be a setting for "exposure". If so...try bumping that up a time or two and see how that affects things. A lot of times I'll bump that up and turn the flash off. Of course I'm not using an iPhone, but the idea should be similar.

I posted in your other thread, but again, It depends how you plan to use the NightCrawler.

In my opinion, for beginners, the first thing to do is grease your axles and add weight to the front tires.

In my opinion, the Losi's are the best out of the box "crawler" period. (Axial Wraith being second)

The durability of a Losi is second to none with some simple maintenance.

As you get used to the rig, post up in the Losi Comp Crawler section with any questions. Always glad to help out with these!

I agree with Gijoe, out of the box losi products are hands down the best quality. I have owned both the night crawler and the comp crawler and also a lst2 no complaints top notch products. Just wish they offered a crawler with a ring and pinion instead of wormdrive.

As for out of box upgrades I would have to say:
Put some lead in the front wheels
Run a lipo
Pick yourself out some bad ass tires
Make or buy some bent links
And finally get a custom body

Once you get to where you wanna comp it or want DIG you can install the comp crawler tranny and upgrade to a 3ch or more radio.

55t is going to be your torque monster. 35t should still give you a good amount of torque with some extra wheel speed. Can't really have the best of both world's. I would be willing to bet you could just put a larger pinion on your stock motor and be happy

There isn't one. Pick which is most important to you and the other will be a compromise. Tekin brushless ROC 412's and Pro 4's will make decent speed, crawl slow just okay, are expensive and require a sensored esc.

The Brood Axle Buster is probably the torquiest brushed motor, not quite as fast as the brushless, but excellent for bottom end. Also expensive.

If you put a 55T in there to get good bottom end, your top end will be like toothpaste coming out the tube. Your really just need to read more and get some time in before asking all these questions. There's no substitute for hand's on experience. And the TeamLosi forum has all the info you need.

BTW, in your other post you were complaining of stalling. A larger pinion will make that worse.

You can have your cake and eat it too...to a point.
First of all, lets get it out there that a Losi crawler will never have the wheelspeed of an Axial based rig per say, but I have found a happy medium.

If you are serious enough about this rig to invest a little more money, I would do so like this...

Losi HD gear Upgrade
Hot Racing Metal Tranny Gears for NIght Crawler
Mamba Max Pro ESC
Castle 10A BEC
13.5 Sensored Brushless Motor
3S Lipo Battery
15T Pinion

This is the set-up I run in my LNC based Scaler. Low speed crawling is fantastic, Acceleration is peppy enough to pop you over obstacles, Top speed equals an average person jogging.

Not too slow that you get bored, Not too fast that you front flip when let off the throttle.
