Default Problem soldering wires to motor

I am trying to solder the power cables to an integy motor.

The solder will not stick to the motor tabs where you connect the wires. The solder heats up and melts, but however it only just does stick. I am then able to slide the solder off the tab using my finger nail. There is then a yellow residue left on the tab.

I have lightly sanded the tab and also cleaned it using turpentine substitute. My fingers have then not made contact with the tab.

The solder I am using is a 5 core solder, made by a company called Ersin.
It states on the tube the following. Savbit Alloy. % cores ersin flux, 5 core solder. Worlds finest solder for electrical and electronic joints.

Seeing as I have purchased the best solder in the world [alledgedly] is it down to me having hands like cows tits and been too heavy handed or something.

Any help will be appreciated.

dont just lightly sand the tab.... take a file/dremel/knife/whatever and scuff it up real good.......

put some flux on it(The plumbers flux ya get for plumbing/soldering pipes works great)

put the iron on the tab and get it hot.... then add electrical solder

do the same for the wire... add flux, heat, solder.......

Then put both together, add heat and viola

Sometimes i never even scuff up that motor tab and still never have a problem.. I just use your basic electrical solder from radio shack

it could be your soldering iron is dirty, get a sponge wet it, clean hot tip then once tip is clean "tin" it by adding solder and let it sit for about 15 seconds.solder on iron will be shiny. Then try to solder the wire after that.
