LOCTITE!!!

I dont consider myself a "newbie" so much anymore but i sure did pull a rookie move. Just to keep you guys reading this from making the same mistake, ill share. Anytime your using machine screws, without a locknut, use loctite. Go buy some now if you dont have any so when the time comes, youll have it. I didnt have any and im impatient so i just figured i would check the screws every so often while im out playing. Nope. I forgot. Now i have myself a headache. the bottom screw on my knuckle came out and the knuckle folded over a little bit (aluminum chubs n knucks). Now the top screw is cracked and i know when i try and take it out, its going to break.

And always remember, loctite.

Random side note about Locite. It tastes kinda sweet, the blue variety.

Hand some on my hand and accidentally wiped my mouth with said hand. To my surprise, it didn't taste bad. Could be used as a condiment like mustard or ketchup.

I'm assuming BLUE is the variety of choice since it's "semi-permanent" right? Is there any application where you'd want to use the RED aka "permanent" or should it be avoided?

I watched a guy pull the cap off CA glue with his mouth and shoot a bunch of it in there. His mouth was dry and you know that stuff bonds instantly with skin. Oh it was hilarious but, he didn't think so.

It was a mistake and a joke for this thread, I am not pounding gallons of Loctite daily.

Red is stronger. I only put it on screws I know are prone to back our or I know I won't need to take off and on alot.

Generally RED Loctite isn't recommended for use on small fasteners such as M3 and 4-40, so don't use it.

Go out and get a stick of this:

Keep it in your tool box, it works great and won't leak. It looks like a large tube of ChapStick, maybe we can get Szczerba to try it out...

I've never seen the stick type, only the bottle of liquid... that leak like you said. I'll look for the stick. Lowes? Home Depot? AutoZone? WalMart?

Years ago , when I was a broke kid just getting into the hobby, I found loctite was out of my budget so my Dad suggested just using clear fingernail polish from the dollar store and it worked well. Now I have to have loctite in the garage or everything will vibrate off of my Harley.

I've read that blue threadlocker can harm plastics though. Is there a good one that is safe on plastic? And no, I do NOT USE THREADLOCKER ON METAL-TO-PLASTIC or PLASTIC-TO-PLASTIC connections. I'm just saying you can easily get threadlocker on plastic parts, even when using it on metal-to-metal connections. I have a CR-01, and anyone with one of thsoe can tell you that you have a million screws that need threadlocker.

I use threadlock on all screws that go into metal I even use it on lock nuts...also use it on plastic when its a high stress point of the vehicle ie. shock towers, bulkheads, etc . and never had a problem with it hurting the plastic

You may not notice it right away but Loctite will damage plastic over time, making them brittle, crack, etc. Take a look at their application spec sheet. I would not use Loctite on any plastic.

Loctite doesn't work so well for plastic anyway. Using either superglue or shoe goo has held screws into plastic for me.
