What will you be doing with it? Bashing or taking your sweet precious time and picking the best line up an obstacle?

The RC4WD Gelande 2 is probably the best all-rounder if you want to stick with the RC4WD brand. It can handle a tumble or two and because it is linked, it is very appealing to the eyes. It is in kit form, so you will have to buy all of the electronics, build it, paint it, etc.

However, Axial has some more simple, lexan bodied RTRs that will get you up and moving while still providing that scale effect. The Axial SCX10 is MUCH less fragile, but will require some upgrades out of the box to fix some RTR issues.

The biggest upgrades to do are:

Axial Aluminum link upgrade- ~$75
Higher quality servo- $14-$150 (take your pick)
With the stronger servo, a Castle Creations BEC will also be needed- $20

I would consider the SCX 10 being it's much more durable and you can always make it a scale looking as you want there are many body options available

A lot depends on how you plan to use it, what your budget is, and whether you want kit vs RTR. There are a ton of threads on the same question, so search is your friend. Here's just one of them:
Who makes the best rock crawler

Gelande is a sweet kit, and the body looks awesome. But that body also means a very high center of gravity, which isn't conducive to going on the rocks. And the stock shocks can't really handle the weight of the rig. The TF2 is also a sweet kit but not the best starting point as a first crawler, because the stock leaf suspension requires either a lot of work or swapping out for links in order to become reasonably capable on anything other than grass.

I'd say SCX10 for a first scale crawler. All the others mentioned have pros and cons as does the SCX platform. The SCX gives you a good solid starting point with by far the highest number of options for upgrades and modifications as well as the best parts availability. If you start with an RTR it really only needs a few minor upgrades to be a fun and durable truck. And of course, if or when you decide you want to open the upgrade/mod floodgate of cash out of your bank account there are tons and tons of options to do that.
