Default Savox waterproof servo causing problems on wraith!

whats up guys? So I've had this wraith for about 3 months now and man does stuff break! So when I first got it one of the first things to go was the servo, went to the hobby shop and got a new Servox SW-0231mg waterproof servo. Ran that for a little bit then the motor went out so I upgraded with a lower geard motor. Not long after the servo was causing problems; It steers left and right just fine, but effects the throttle. The throttle was glitchy and not really working at all. So I took it in and the servo was the problem, with the servo unplugged it worked just fine. So They sent it back to Servox and they gave me a brand new one at no charge a month later. So Now I have been wheelin it pretty good for about 2 weeks and the same thing is happening again! I guess I could go wait another month for them to replace it for free, but the chances are high it'll happen again. So What should i do here? I'm trying to have a servo that won't do this! Is there a better servo I should get? Or is there a way to make this one work? Pretty sure I have to replace the servo regardless, so I'll get the same one for free replacement or I am totally willing to get a quality servo under my wraith. Appreciate any help! -thirdeye

First off, that servo is pretty weak and not really suited for a wraith at 208 oz of torque. The Savox SA-1230SG is perfect for a wraith. 500 oz of torque at 6 volts. It's not waterproof but you can take care of that yourself. Don't forget to buy a CC BEC as it's power hungry and will brown out your rig.

Get a refund, and WP it yourself. Go to the Electronics section here and the first Sticky (if I remember correctly) is on how to waterproof your RC. Find the servo section and waterproof your servo. Also, Norton said get a SA-1230SG. You don't have to go for something that fancy (or quite as much $$$$ wise) as that, just a HT servo with at least 300oz. (I know everyone will say it's not enough but it was for me ). Just make sure it has bearing cause otherwise Wraiths rip cases. All I ran in my Wraith was a spare $10 servo I had lying round and that did me fine.

I've got no problem shellin out a couple extra ducketts for a nice servo. I will be ordering the Savox SA-1230SG mentioned.... But what is the CC BEC that was mentioned? I'm new and don't know much about electronics, my search leads me to Battery Electronic Circuit. Is CC the company? Castle Creations? Is the BEC an added on part? or an upgrade for an existing part?

Thats a nice servo at 500oz torque at 6v you will need a castlelink to program the bec through usb on computer or someone that has one!

Castle Link is super easy to use. It takes just a minute or two to install its software once you plug it into your USB port. Once the software is installed and you connect the BEC to the interface card, it brings up a pop-up window and takes about 30 seconds to program. Figuring out how to register and post here is much harder.

Castle Creations | Castle Link USB Programming Kit
Very easy to use! You can program it before its installed by just plugging it up without any power needed. If you install it to esc you might beed to hook up a battery to program either way easy! it will also program any castle, ae-2 or Holmes Hobby esc also!!!

Jeeps look great!
I know it's too late.. But why do all these savox 1230 keep trumping out a HH servo..

It's a 7950 on 7.4v and 572oz at 8.4v.. USA based company selling them and repairing or replacing them if something goes wrong(yes, i see that savox replaced the servo, which surprised the crap out of me.. It might be the second time I have ever read of savox doing something like that), full alloy case, and waterproof...

Just sayin...

Yes they had some problems to start.. All replaced or warrantied.. And they are getting better and better! (Weak gears replaced with steel)

So it looks like the castle software only works for a PC?

What do I need to program the BEC to?

Anybody have any suggestions for a new motor and ESC? I've been searching but I'm just not sure whats best, considering the Castle ESC, but really not sure what motor is best, I like to crawl mostly, what do you guys recommend?

I really don't think that servo could put out that much torque especially w a plastic housing, I've seen servos that are much much nicer that can't touch those numbers.... Spend some money and keep buying real servos, if you've already got the 1230 as stated then keep on that route.

For those that don't know here's the conversion:

10 kg/cm = 895.958636 oz/in

12 kg/cm = 1075.150363 oz/in
