| Why not start out with a chassis?
I've been watching alot and reading alot on crawlers and I have a question to all? Why not just start out with a crawler chassis, because it seems most of the time all the stock parts get replaced? I know most guys want a general idea of how the crawler preforms before it's upgraded, but to me it would make more sense to just buy the chassis and build it like you want. just a thought....Would love to hear everyones comments?.....Terry

That's what I do now. Just buy a used chassis, axles and shocks and make everything else to fit the body/chassis you want. It's easy once you have experience... intimidating without experience. |

it is the chicken and the egg syndrome difficult to know what components to buy before we have the experience with the quality of what comes with the kits. get a used rig and learn from it. get your hands dirty. break a few parts. once you know what you want with the hobby, then start building what you want. keep your starter or sell it to another newby to learn with. there are a lot of aspects to this hobby; not just the building or driving but the different types of vehicles, scaler, shafty, moa, super, mini, foff, flat track, drift, etc... the trick is to get the wife/gf interested and involved too. |

Just ask yourself this - would you buy your first car by building it from scratcht or would you just buy one?

I bought a Ridgecrest first, then decided I wanted more of a scaler, so bought the scx10 chassis, and transferred parts. Then I liked building so much, that I bought another scx10 chassis, and the necessary parts to construct another truck....I can't stop now, I'm addicted.

Carbon i agree with you on getting the wife interested, she is just not interested in how many i have and the fact that i can only run one at a time...lol I agree you need a vehicle to get the feel of it to know what you want or like or if the part is even going to work, but also start with a blank canvas and knowing that the world of google and information that is out there you shouldn't have any problems figure out what you want or need on any given crawler? |
