I went the cheap route as it's just a basher... I spend all my money on my scalers.

But, really any wheel with adjustable hubs should work: VP, Locked-Up, TSS...

If you had to choose between the two for speed and just "bashing" (yes, that term means different things to different people), the Slash for it's parts availability and aftermarket support. Yes, the Yeti will have a good amount of both but the Slash has been established for much longer with a lot more aftermarket (right now).

To add something else to think about, have you thought of a 1/8 buggy/truggy? For the most part, they're pretty pricey, but some like the Typhon can be bought used for $300-$350. Just another thing to consider for your 'go fast' need.

No build thread unfortunately, and this was the only picture of it that I took. I attached the cage up front using some proline adjustable body mounts, and drilling new holes in the body. For the rear mount I just used the screw that holds on the faux exhaust pipe, and drilled two holes in the chassis. There are a number of different ways to go about attaching it, once you have the parts in your hand it'll be obvious

This place ROCKS! (Way to obvious pun not intended)

It's Traxxas by a landslide! I foresee a Slash 4x4 roller in my future. Thanks to all who responded -- a great read and I really appreciate the help.

Now on to the build. Thinking along the lines of Johnnyh66's and MattTheGenus' rigs. Something other than the typical short-course truck.

Thanks again!

They have slash front suspension. It's something new someone's come up with..but I haven't seen the cost yet. Honestly I'd get the VXL 4x4 slash first, then later on get the Yeti...or just get a Yeti XL and call it day

But having ran both, if you want out of the box bashing fun, grab a Slash. replace the parts that break(generally a-arms) with RPM or MIP and run it till something else gives out. You either want one with a stock LCG chassis and/or sway bars, as it does have a tendency to want to barrel roll when cornered hard on solid ground.... Here's my HCG slash(before the 17mm conversion that it's currently getting) that i've set up for drag racing at my local HobbyTown (it's got 1/8th castle Mamba setup and a 4s in it..but I run 6s when racing)

The slash would definitely be more durable but the yeti is such a beast! !!

I've been in the same position of need to choose between the yeti and the slash.
I got the yeti and loved it. broke several parts and did some upgrades. Now I'm gearing down towards trail run/U4 racing and looking forward to get a slash 4x4 for high speed... and maybe a wraith for crawling/trail...

Picked mine up used for way cheap. Replaced some parts, upgraded a few others. Haven't broken anything in over a year. Cheapest RC I own and I'm harder on it than any of the others. Can't beat Slash for general bashing, or even the extreme skate park bashing that I do! Sand dunes have got to be the most fun, though. Just carry spare spur gears.

I have never owned a yeti but my slash 4x4 is extremely hard to brake and is very fast. I have jumped very high with it and crashed hard with it and have not broke anything yet and I love it.

your wheels are from an ecx ruckus not a tmaxx

having owning a slash 4x4 and 2wd from day 1 they are fun to drive and pretty durability.
But having a yeti for more then a month now this is way more fun,and you can have best of both world too with the option of a 2 speed transmission.
One for speed the other for crawling...
Yeti for me...I'd buy another one who cares if it breaks...

Ben looking for a crawler, but may have to hybridize with a yeti instead. Where is the best place to start?
