Default Help for a newbie

I am looking for some guidance in selecting a crawler for my six year old grandson. Since this his first experience with rc, I am thinking of something fairly basic, but durable.

1/10 or 1/18 scale
4 wheel drive
waterproof
replaceable and available parts
ready to drive
included controller, battery, and charger
slipper clutch

Any help?

Thanks...

I would say that the Ascender RTR package at RPP Hobbies meets all the above.
But you might consider the RTR, and pick your batteries and a good charger from their site.

Personally for a 6yo i think a scx10 would be just fine. Although like the ascender the rtr doesn't come with a battery and charger. I would go with the deadbolt from tower hobbies. They have a deadbolt/battery/charger combo for 323.19 or just the truck for 299. Then use the coupon code for 36 off an order of 299. Its what i plan on getting my wife for Christmas, i figure by then she will be tired of driving my old cc01

The rtr deadbolt can usually be found for a pretty good deal like previously mentioned.

Thanks all for the replies...at first I was looking at an ECX Temper, but the Deadbolt seems to be in a different class. I have a lot of rc heli experience, but no experience with ground vehicles. Tower Hobby combo deal looks great. I want something which has readily available replacement parts and is upgradeable, and the Deadbolt seems to fit the bill. Can someone tell me the name of the esc connector used on the Deadbolt; I'm used to Deans, EC3s, EC5s, XT30 and XT60 connectors, but the connector on the Deadbolt seems different. If we wanted to go lipo in the future, would we be looking at 7.4v 2 cell? Any problem with size as far as fit is concerned?

Thanks,

Ken

The Deadbolt has the Tamiya style connector, fairly common, but you can swap it out for a Dean's easy enough. As far as lipo, any standard size 2s will fit. You can also run those RTR's on 3s if you want more speed.

Well, here I am about two weeks after my initial post, and both my grandson and I have Deadbolts and could not be happier. Thanks all for the suggestions!

Deadbolt works just fine for the 6 year old...he understands that crawling doesn't mean bashing every tree and curb in sight...

So much to learn in this hobby, and I thought helis were complicated.

Totally stock for now, but wheels and tires, upgraded links, and more detail scale accessories are right around the corner (for me

Ken

Check out the scx10 section and search how to make your own links. There's some cheap easy diy mods you'll find. Great rig to teach the grandson how to wrench too
