ECX Barrage 1/12 for husbands bday build/questions

Hello everyone, I tried asking people on Ultimate rc for advise about the ECX 1/12 barrage. Pretty much got "get something else", my husbands bday is in beginning of December, I already ordered him the ecx barrage i ended up getting a brand new one shipped for $138.99 shipped to the door. This is gonna be a very long write up sorry with lots of question, i may be female but i have been building them myself for years my father taught me before he passed. I wanted to get him something better but funds wouldn't allow it, its our daughters very first xmass so shes the priority. My husbands usually into very fast rc hes got a heavily modded losi ten mt with a 36-74 motor on 4s he just bought and built.Plus a few emaxxes. The reason im getting him this is his best friend is very into crawling/trailing and has his own built crawler/trail track and about 5 axial builds. Twice a month he will go out and spend a couple hours just watching his friends and cheering them on. Moneys tight plus he has never mentioned he wants to get into trailing/crawling. I got a feeling he might enjoy it, His best friend is helping me do the build, he already ordered a rc390 motor to upgrade the tiny 370. i believe the motor will run 12000 rpm at 12v, he ordered a 1300mah 3s lipo also. ok im gonna ask the questions now

1.Is 12000 rpm motor enough rpm for a crawler/trailer?
2.do you guys run a heatsink and fan for 30+ minute uses or is it fine with out one?
3.It says it excepts a 1/10 servo any recommendations for a cheap servo that doesn't pull more then 2 amps?
4. the transmission is from the ecx temper/other clones are the transmissions dependable?
5.is the WP 60A FWD/REV Brushed ESC a ok esc..
6. last but not least will rubber undercoating stick to the front of the lexan body i plan on hitting areas with a scotch pad? im wanting to make it look like it has black fender flares, a black hood scoop, black in the bed.

If anyone's interested i can take pics and show a build if any one wants. Thank you guys so much

Here's a thread:

1. Don't see specs on stock motor, prolly ok.
2. No.
3. Tower Pro985 maybe?
4. Don't know, but don't recall hearing any problems with it.
5. Yes.
6. With proper preparation yes. Black paint weighs less, keep the weight down low, light coating of rubber undercoating should be fine.

Pics? :)

My rgt is pretty much a rebadged Barrage.
Shock are really limited so trimming the limiters will help it.
Losi mini rock crawler / vaterra slickrock axle parts fit the Barrage axles so there is room to upgrade besides what ecx offered parts.

Might want think about pinion/ spur gearing also.

Good luck with it. I love mine and it's a fun rig to drive.

You're an awesome wife! Do you have any sisters???

I can't answer all of your quesitons, but HobbyWing WP1060 ESC is the best bang for your buck on the market right now if that's the one you're talking about.

As for servos I am happy with the Solar D772 servos.

In stock form at least mine there is no body rub but the tire did rub the front bumper a tad. Moved it out one hole and it was fine. Even went I put a 4.6" tall tire on it at stock body height it was fine. Just not sure about the Barrage body I would play with it a little and cycle the suspension and turn the tires when stuffed to see if trimming is even needed

All good suggestions, can also trim the bumper(s) and body a little for tire clearance, better to keep cog low than raise the body.
