| My next crawler... need something different but I'm a total newb
Hi Everyone, I'm a total newb to crawlers so I appreciate your understanding. I have a TRX-4 coming in Monday but I know I'll want to have at least one more crawler for when I take my kid, another friend, or when one is down. We have an active crawler scene in Austin and one of the trails is really close to my house, so I know I'll be able to actually use the trucks a bit. I'm looking for something that's different enough from a TRX-4 (for some reason I'm really craving a 6x6). I definitely like the scale look, not some of those crazy crawlers that don't look like a drive-able truck. Thanks for any ideas on my 2nd crawler. I have a few trucks to sell/trade right now so I should have the funds to spend a decent amount, but nothing too too crazy. Adam |

What he said. The sawback is a pretty inexpensive option. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk |

If you really want a scale looking truck that is going to be different from the TRX-4, the RC4WD TF2 or Gelande 2 are excellent options. The TF2 is now available with 4 different bodies (2-door and 4-door Mojaves aka Hiluxes, Chevy Blazer, or 2-door LC70 pickup), all of which come with leaf-sprung suspensions. The Gelande 2 is available with 3 different body choices (Defender 90, Defender 110, and Cruiser aka FJ40), all of which come with linked suspensions (though I highly recommend converting the Cruiser to leafs to mimic the 1:1). Some come with full interiors, others with partial interiors. All are a blast for trailing and light crawling, and with a little bit of work, they can be made into pretty capable crawlers. If you go that route, you'll want the TRX-4 to be the loaner, not a hard body scaler. In fact, once you build a true hard body scaler, chances are very high that it will become your go-to rig and the TRX-4 will become your backup. Oh...and I completely agree with EeePee recommendation to go leaf sprung. If I'm just grabbing a truck to go out on the trails, I almost always pick a leaf-sprung truck. Good luck with your decision! |
