| Trailing arm suggestion
I am going to extend the wheelbase on my twin hammers and was wondering which trailing arm you would recommend. I was looking at the ssd ones and vanquish. To me the vanquish looks stronger with the ends part of the assembly but with the ssd ones I can swap the end if it is damaged. Each has it's merit. The truck is mostly used for bashing if that makes a difference

Is there a purpose for the dual big bore shocks like that?

A note on the ssd arms, get longer set screws or screw them less into the arms and more into the rod ends. It's a massive PITA to get the snapped rod ends out if you haven't done this (mine snapped right at the shoulder on the rod ends.) Sent from my SM-G960W using Tapatalk |

Unless they've changed, the SSD arms use a smaller 3mm shanked for end, which is adequate for a crawler. If your an abusive driver who does a lot of jumping then they will become your weak link. I have a set of JEC trailing arms that sit larger 4mm Revo rod ends frenched into the ends. They are a bit heavier than the other options, but on a front heavy stretched twin hammers that may not be a detriment. I am a very picky person who wants everything overbuilt, and I can highly recommend the NEC trailing arms. I Have two friends, who are admittedly hard on equpment, that have managed to wear though the ends of the Vanquish arms under the rod end pockets, rendering the arms basically useless. I know many people run them without issues, but the design of soft aluminum as the lowest point of the truck wrapped around a harder steel ball just doesn't work for me. I just picked up a set of the JECs for my Bomber. Mine are the stainless, and they're heavy as hell. I think they're perfect for a crawler or all-around utility vehicle, but if your goal is high speed handling (U4RC, etc), I would stick with the aluminum version. These will add a lot of unsprung weight which will negatively impact high speed handling. For my Yeti I picked up a set of MFR trailing arms. These are extremely light. They may be lighter than the factory plastic arms. These use Revo rod ends, and an 8-32 set screw, which is even larger than an M4. I haven't used these yet, so I can't report on the durability of the trailing arm itself (it's VERY light), but the rod ends aren't going anywhere, that I'm sure of. JEC on the left, MFR on the right. |

For a Twin Hammers, the JEC Racing 7075 Aluminum trailing arms would be a nearly indestructible choice: https://jecracing.com/collections/j-...=7675221934124 But the SSD are likely plenty strong unless you're really thrashing it... The 7075 alloy is noticeably harder than the commonly-used 6061-T6, nice and slippery over rocks. Last edited by durok; 09-05-2018 at 08:24 PM. |
