| true working transfer case?
this may have been asked before, but I wasn't sure how to search for it. -EDIT this turned into multiple questions. being a newbie to the rc crawler world, I was curious if there is an actual working transfer case available? one that would allow for 2wd if desired or 4wd if desired. also, for trying a dually crawler build, what are opinions on the best chassis to use? does anyone know where I can find a 1/10 2ng Gen dodge ram body? would prefer extended cab, either with or without a bed. thank you for any and all answers |

You could use an SCX style trans with VP's dig setup, then mount it backwards. One position would be rear wheel drive, another for 4wd, and another would be a "line lock" for sweet burnouts.

i think tamyia made a trans like that years ago and as for the dodge if your looking for 94-02 then parma makes a few of them.

Thanks for the responses. TheLetterJ, im not sure what VP's dig setup means. Could you explain that? Again, Im new to this stuff. The link posted for rc4wd is from 10 years ago, and the part was discontinued 10 years ago. I was hoping to find something that might still be in production

A complete Wraith transmission is easily found (and upgradeable should you ever want to), and the dig kit is still available on Ebay and in a few stores. Dig is used by competition rock crawlers - basically it allows the rear wheels to decouple from the drive line, and either spin free or lock solid (allowing the front wheels to keep pulling and pivot the truck) Installing it backwards allows you to decouple the front wheels, giving 2/4WD. I've used this setup on a few rigs, and with the Wraith dig, I ground off the locking pins so that it never locks the front axle completely. Didn't want that happening under power, so now it's just a pure 2/4WD transmission. Since I use mine with a Tamiya 3 speed transmission, I removed the motor mount, slipper clutch, etc. and ground down the input shaft. Now it's a true 2/4WD transfer case. Hope this helps clarify. |

Interesting fact: I made a true 2wd/4wd tcase with CADtoChrome around 10 years ago, scroll down this page: Cad To Chrome - Custom RC Parts We made 10 I think. They end up being too big by todays scale standards. I still have one in my collection. |
