| The tranny you cannot abuse
I read many articles saying that TLT-1 can bear any sort of abuse. I spent time and money trying to lock the central ball differential and last evening I noticed it was slipping again. I unmounted it completely and I was very disappointed by the bad state of wear of most pieces. Below you can see a photo of the differential rear joint: the dogbone has weared it very much in not more than 20 hours of runtime. Now I don't know what to do: I don't want to replace that piece every month and I'm thinking of buying a pede or R2 tranny. About the R2 tranny: do you know if replacement parts are available at TowerHobbies ? Bye Filippo |

nope they dont have parts at tower. they do have them ar rc4wd.com. the gears are all metal so its going to be really hard to bust it. you can run traxxas yokes and sliders on it without modification and those parts are available at tower. |

I'm not sure which, but the TLT center is the same as one of Tamiya's on-road cars front diff... those Tower would have parts for... I just can't remember which one it is that it shares those parts with...

I've been having good luck with my Tracer. I had a nasty clicking coming from the truck. We suspected the belt was skipping. Seems that someone didn't put loctite on the grub screw that holds the drive cups on the pinion at the axle. The grub screw loosened and was making a clicking sound as it came around the pinion shaft. I like my Tracer, have no plans of getting rid of the stock tranny. Makes a great basher when wheeled right. Just have to drive the rig and get to know it's limits. |

sometimes it's better to have a platics part break that more expensive or vital parts break if you go all metal | |

Some days ago I complained about the differential joints which were worn by the dogbones. I finally decided to lock the central differential in a unreversible way (after the failure with slippery pegs) making 2 holes in the plastic adapters of the differential joints aligned with the holes in the spur gear and locking everything with 2 screws. It worked for a while but unfortunately yesterday I noticed that front wheels were not moving while the rear ones were slipping. The front plastic adapter, weakened by my bad-made holes, broke into 2 pieces despite the fact I glued it to the differential joint with loctite. Before spending many money for the stampede tranny I would be sure it can handle the torque of a crawler without breaking or wearing fast. Besides I wonder if there is an easy way to repair my tranny (don't think using glue can be successful but perhaps there is a chance with JB weld) : I looked for the broken parts at Tower but they don't have it. don't know how to connect the spur gear to the differential joint. What do you think ? Thank you Filippo |

i think this is the best way to lock the stock center diff, scroll down past the axle lock and you'll see it. http://www.craftlab.net/epage/etechtltdifferrential.htm i did this with mine while waiting for my tracer kit to arrive and never had any problems with it slipping or breaking. i didnt even drill mine, i used a razor knife and notched out for the screws. |

It is what I did: unfortunately during the process I ruined a bit the plastic adapter and it finally was broken into 2 pieces by the torque. Bye Filippo |

The tamiya car you were talking about is the TA04. They use the same ball diff.
