So I was wondering if they make or can crawlers handle higher speeds. I was looking at a gen 8 or scx10 v2. I would like to run at a local flat dirt track and also go hiking on some trails. Love the look of the scale aspect of the crawler but the speed of the bashers Sent from my GM1917 using Tapatalk |

Yessir it can go as fast as you want it to, just prolly gonna want a brushless system with some higher kv’s and maybe a higher power battery but a 2s can get the job done as well and be safe at the same time. There’s a lot of different good swaps out there

2 speed and 3000kv brushless gets you about 15 mph on 3s in a scx10II. A little slower than a brushed traxxas slash. But she will traction roll at the slightest hint of steering input at top speed. Stiff foams and otherwise stock suspension. |

you can certainly make them go fast, but getting them to be controllable at higher speeds is another issue entirely. Anything that you do to help with handling will hurt crawling ability, so it's really a compromise. In my opinion, it's easier to get a basher to be a good trail truck or light crawler than it is to get a crawler to be a good basher. Take any SCT or 4x4 monster truck, add some 2.2 crawler wheels & tires to it, lock the diffs with silly putty, and you end up with a capable trail truck that can still go fast and handle somewhat respectably. I'm doing that with a Hobby King Desert Fox as a "cheap yeti" alternative and it's working out well. Another option if you want something turnkey, is to get a Yeti, Rock Rey or Twin Hammers type truck. If you want something that's more scale-realistic, you could try a Baja Rey or similar vehicle. |
