Default Where do you store your RC when not driving?

Mrs. Is not totally happy with the RC explosion in our house.

Where is the best place to store RC cars? Do they need climate control?

Can I store them on a shelf in my garage?

Thank you!

They're fine in the garage for the most part. If it's a decently sealed garage. I wouldn't store RC's or anything of value in a musty, especially dusty/ contaminated garage. Climate controlled conditions aren't an absolute necessary either. I do however like mine inside the house. Just the potential for spiders alone makes me not like keeping things out there too long... like shoes, RC stuff, etc. I love spiders but I don't want hundreds of 'em hatching out inside my stuff. Big temp and humidity swings are another reason that I'd rather anything with electronics be stored inside.

I can counsel you and your wife if it comes to that. Every man deserves to have RC stuff in their lives so there should be some compromise somewhere lol.

I picked up several plastic shelving units from The Container Store, and use those. Go into YouTube, look for videos by 'Ecocaged', and you'll get an idea of what I'm in the process of trying to organize. How be had his sweet up is scary inspired me to do something similar.

I keep mine in the garage, we have a 3 car setup and the single port is my lair. I only have 3 so not really taking up much real estate. My little garage/diorama takes up about 12 square feet though.

Pack up the wife's side of the closet and keep your rigs and equipment in there. The problem will eventually work itself out.

(kidding of course, my stuff lives in a clean finished basement room. a restaurant style metal wire shelf can hold a lot of equipment and doesn't take much space. Same goes for those plastic, stackable shelving units.)

Would it bad to out batteries outside in the garage? Or is it better to keep batteries inside the house?

I have a set of Closetmaid racks on the wall of the hobby room that is good for 12 trucks, 6-7 Harbor Freight hooks in the garage for hanging the bigger trucks, and I’m still searching for a place to put about a dozen more.

Definitely, inside the house. That's what that drawer is for at the bottom of the oven. It's a battery storage compartment, designed to keep batteries from getting too cold. As an alternate storage spot, you can also place them in air-tight steel containers, and store them next to your furnace, water heater, or any other source of warmth.

There's no problem with storing them outside. Odds are it's colder where I am than where you are in I've always kept mine in the garage. Been doing this for about 8-9 years.

Not a good idea to charge them in the cold. (4.20V in the cold can turn into 4.3 when they warm up and that's really bad for the cells)

Should warm them to room temp before using.

But no issue with simple storage.

Currently, I store my RCs in my (heated) garage. Batteries are usually on a glass / metal table.

At my previous home, I stored my RCs in the basement. Batteries were usually on the concrete floor, 12+" away from flammables.

Usually batteries come with recommendations for storage temperatures if your read the instructions. Generally, they are happy at a pretty wide range of temperatures.

I think I might try to figure out a place to store them inside. I only have 3 deadbolt, kei truck and C24-1. Son has deadbolt and a DOA B14 from banggood.

I store mine on 1” dowels that are attached to a piece of plywood. Takes up a lot less space than a shelving unit.

Similar to this (random photo from the internet):

If it wasn't EXTREMELY obvious that that was a joke, you'll have to re-evaluate your sense of humor.

Yes most of us get the joke but unfortunately this is the newcomers page and some of them could take it as ok. On this page we should be careful of the advice we give. Just my opinion.

The "storage tray under the oven" should have been a dead (literally, and figuratively) giveaway.
