Default Scx 10.2 or Trx 4

I’ve had a deal fall through and have a new one I’m looking into, it’s an scx10.2 with 2 batteries and a charger for $400.
But I’m torn cuz I really have been looking into a Trx 4.
Any suggestions? The rtr Trx is more money but it comes with a lot.

Anyones opinions would be appreciated

I have both the trx4 and the Scx10ii. The Traxxas is a much better quality unit. The Axial is nicely designed for endless upgrading but too many of the stock pieces are of poor quality. Get the Traxxas, especially if you are already leaning in that direction.

I'll toss the SSD Trail King Builders Kit in for good measure. Its basically a Highly upgraded 10.2 with a scales drivetrain.

Unless you want to use DIG or 2 speed This is a great kit.

I agree the Trx seems like a great fun rig, I’m a newbie to the crawlers so I want something out of the gate pretty good all around and I can mod as I go and break stuff

I am Biased towards the TRX4 but not a fan of their remote locking diffs. I do like the 2 speed tranny, my vote would be for the sport, you could always upgrade the tranny later

Default Scx 10.2 or Trx 4

I’ve had both. The TRX4 is built like a tank, 10ii is average. I haven’t broken anything mechanical on either of my TRX4s while on my 10ii I broke two differential gears, the panhard mount, and a couple rod ends. Nothing major, but still breaks.

As far as the plastics, you wouldn’t know they were poor quality until you had a TRX4.

My opinion, I’d go TRX4. For the longest I was on the Axial side of the fence(don’t get me wrong, I still love me some axial rigs) but after comparing it to a TRX4 Sport without the switching diffs(which I do not like, at all)and 2 speed, the TRX4 is by far a better truck all around.

Ya I guess the guy selling the scx 10.2 is having issues with the car and doesn’t want to sell so That’s a sign the Trx 4 should be my choice

While it was not inquired about, if I were going to pick up a crawler/Trail rig, I would compare the Element Enduro and the TRX4 as opposed to the SCX10ii.

The Element truck is excellent value and quality. The Stealth X transmission comes with gearing options for overdrive included, soo good. Arguably it has the best stock shocks in the business. If you aren't into portal axles, this rig doesn't have them. If you haven't already, take a look see.

I think you will enjoy that more with it's 2 speed and functioning diffs.

TRX for an RTR if you are building from scratch probably axial based.

Here’s an update now that I have a scx 10.2 and the trx 4 defender

Just had to put this out there because being new to this I’ve heard so many mixed things about the trx 4 and scx 10.2
I have a defender and a stock scx 10.2 and I’m new to crawling. I have some brass on the defender and new tires and I just got the scx 10.2 used for a good deal and it blows the trx defender out of the water. I’ve been making my own little course at home and I had to tweak it a ton for the defender. I take the scx 10.2 out just to see what she’s got and it went over everything without even much of a pause. I’m very impressed

I TOLD YOU SO lol arent you glad you got both rigs lol

those are 2 vary differnt rigs and need 2 vary differnt driving styles

one isent better than the other one just one will fit your style of driving better

there both vary capable platforms and can be modified to meet your needs but being differnt just keeps it interesting

Take the bodies off each one and compare them. Whatever one does better than the other can probably be improved on the one that fails. Find what they are strong at and see how you can imporve the other, same with the weaknesses.

BUT as long as the TRX has that big heavy body on it it will suck.

I completely agree that they require different driving styles, I enjoy both and maybe it’s cuz I’ve had the trx longer and the scx is new and different. But for now I’m working on taking weight off the top of the trx, I did get a new body I just have to get it painted, now I’m looking for some bead lock wheels.
