Default Is this a universal thing?

So, watching enough YouTube, I realize this is normal for my car.
My questions are:
1) Is this a universal thing?
2) Why would they do this? Seems like they are asking for issues here.

Thanks!

The good news for brushed motors is, you can swap the motor wires for motor direction and not hurt anything. However, you swap the battery leads and that would be trouble. Most of my motor wires are the same color or blue and yellow from the hobbywing 1080’s

I was happy to see my 1080 had the different color wires. Easier on my faux ADD

One user on here had an Element RTR and it was assembled with the diff gears in backwards (diffs are strongest when going the proper forward direction so this is not great). So in order to "fix" it they (the factory) swapped the wires on the motor to reverse the direction it spins which is totally fine for brushed motors. However I will add thats absolutely not safe for a brushless setup. The proper fix is to open up the diffs and flip them back if they are indeed flipped and then switch the motor wires back to red to red black to black.

Its possible you might have the same thing going on.

EDIT: I found the other post, the issue starts to get narrowed down on post 15 IFS front diff clicking

A quick way to see if the diffs are flipped or not is to roll the wheels forward and check what direction the driveshaft spins on the front axle. When the diffs are installed on the correct side the driveshaft spins counterclockwise when viewed from the back looking forward. If it spins the other way the factory messed up. If thats the case it really should be fixed or your diff gears might not hold up over time.

Upon further review, it seems the Element cars are designed to run the motor in “reverse rotation”
The brushless motor upgrades specify to program the motor for reverse rotation as well.

I did the 11.8% Overdrive upgrade, no issues there… yet LOL!

I guess I would just want to ask their engineers: “why design it for reverse rotation?”

Thanks for the replies! Was just curious.

Aren’t element gears bevel cut? I didn’t think bevel cut gears had a coast and drive side.

I was also under the impression the wires were reversed to alleviate the jackrabbit starts from the stock esc.

the standard gears seem to be but they do have a nicer machined gear set from Factory Team

here's the stock gear

and the machined gear

I might be completely off base on the gears being flipped. It is easy to double check if you're curious though.

I must have been thinking of a different gear set, haven’t actually had eyes on element stuff for a long time
