Default Gonna Build A Scaler!

:-P I decided to build a scale truck... But I don't know what would be decent for under 300$, I want to be able to do some crawling, flexing, and alot of mud running. Since I sold my Hi-Lux to Snook I dont have a base to build anything up, anyone got any ideas? I was thinking an xmod, but they kinda suck and dont sit very high..

Building a scaler, so am I. And I can tell ya, I already have spent over 300 bucks and it's not even completed yet. LOL.. But, for starters, I recommend the Diaz D12 chassis. Looks killer, very scale. Reign also makes some cool looking chassis's as well. The K2-3L and K2-3S.

Maybe some TLT-1 axles, etc. Hit up some searches, you can find alot of info on this site.

Good luck.

get a WK, you can use it as a crawler out of the box, and then slowly make it scale!

$300 from scratch? Or $300 with an existing electronics and batteries?

From scratch or you already have some of the basics?

Crawler specific hop ups are coming out very slowly... you will not have the variety of parts that you would with the TLT for quite some time.

Eventually, the vendors will begin making parts for the WK; but until then it is slim pickens.

Good luck on the build, post pics.

lmao thats pretty good but i just didn't know if the axle would allow you to mod it that way. but i saw someone else do it to there's so i guess that means it can be done. i think i want a wk now. the look like a good off road truck. except for the weight balance.

Just something to think about.....

NO truck out there comes factory with axles set up for a GOOD link set up for crawling IMHO. They ALL need to be built and tweeked for performance.

They all have horrible weight placement for crawling in stock form

Thats what is so great about RC crawling, you gotta build it yourself. You'll never see a RTR comp worthy crawler IMO. There are just to many variables to be accounted for with different terrain, classes, chassis design, wheelbase choice, tire size and most important....style of driving. Everyone drives differently. Some set ups will not work for one guy but it could take another guy to the podium.

The stock WK chassis is absolutely useless. Super flexy and zero options for changing link/shock mount points.

LOL!

I've never seen a WK axle in person, but from the pics I've seen they don't look quite as versatile as a TLT axle as far as custom mounting options. There's far fewer aftermarket parts available for them.

Nope - they all have stuff mounted to the bottom of the housing where it will hang up constantly. Makes no sense, but they are all designed that way.
It's gonna be quite some time before you can buy a true "RTR" crawler, and that's a good thing IMO. I also really like the do-it-yourself aspect of crawling. That's changing though, as popularity increases.
