Default batteries

I have been racing stock off-road for awhile and I know that it is all about batteries. Are batteries as important for crawling?

A good battery never hurt anyone. Run what you can afford. I have 3300s for the most part and they last quite a long time...

My understanding is if you move over to Brushless then batteries do matter. I have read other threads where others have issues until they move over to a custom battery back.

Cheapbatterypacks.com is a great place to go, if you are looking for batteries.

Batteries are indeed important if you want to get the most out of your motor. Battery bars, good connectors, and good wire is a must for any high performance vehicle. If you go to brushless it is all the more important.

Those would not work for any brushless system in a crawler unfortunatly. Only 12 amps continuous... Even a tiny 2215 motor will burst 50 amps.

What would be a good lipo pack to get? I would guess 2cell and 7.2-7.4 volts. I like my lipo so far, brushless mini-t, and have a good charger. I would like to go brushless eventually with my crawlers but I can't aford to do it all at once.

Along with the LiPo battery questions I have one.

Battery life is rated in mah, so a 2200mah battery would give you the same runtime as a 2200nimh?

That is correct.

I am currently testing lipo packs for use in crawlers. The packs that I have used successfully are 2100 2 and 3 cell 15C Enerland packs. Kokam cells are good as well, but I have not tested them in my crawlers.

IF you stacked a few of the GWS packs together (like 3 or 4) in parallel you would have a usable battery that is hard to charge.

The hardest part of rating a lipo for crawling is the driver. Every style of driving, motor, and location will stress the motors differently.

One last stupid question.

I see some cells listed as a 2s2p, does this mean its a 4 cell?

Yes, exactly. 2 Series 2 Parallel. You take two 2 cell packs (7.4v) and hook them in parallel for double the runtime and amperage handling.

So, a mamba maxx wouldn't support something like that?

This lipo stuff confuses the crap outta me.

The mamba max would only see 7.4 volts nominal, so it would be just fine. The cutoff on the mamba max is key for using lipo too.
