They are much happier going fast. They will load up and overheat in most crawling situations.

nitro clutches tend to melt in crawling as well, deff not a good thing.

I've discussed the nitro crawler theory with quite a few people, and only one guy I've talked to has had some innovative ideas for a scratch-built purpose specific rig, with solutions to nitro-specific issues being taken into account. Everyone else has been kids who already own some kind of nitro rig and want to convert it quick and cheap into a crawler, which is utterly impossible. If you are new to crawling, the Axial Scorpion would be a good choice for you to try IMO. It's pretty much the very first crawling-specific chassis/axle/transmission "kit", so building one up should be simple and straightforward, and it should perform well right out of the box... I've never seen a gas crawler either, I have heard that someone was trying it somewhere, but never seen it. I think there is a reason for that. I don't see how a gas crawler could be feasible. These electric motor have much more tourque.

I have killed my t maxx a few times, clutch, overheating etc trying to go slow on rocks, hit the same rocks at 20mph and its happy as heck but try to crawl over them and its going to cause loading, clutch cooking and overheating bottom line.
