I'd go with a 45t or 55t lathe.

Yesterday I installed a 65T Integy lathe motor and used the stock gearing. I chose 65T because I didn't want to mess with gearing changes. Another thing was that Tower had 65T's in stock but not 55T's or 45T's. Top speed is about 5 mph, about 1/3 of the original aproximately 15 mph top speed. Low speed is now a lot more controlable and it has more closed throttle 'braking' without using any reverse. It still has enough speed to outwalk me by a factor of 2 (or by a factor of 5 on the rough trails) and enough speed to get some run at a difficult section so that momentum helps it climb. Today I'll take it to the rocks and report how it did after returning. It did crawl the curb very slowly and easily yesterday and it went through the high grass with less trigger. |

I use a 55T Integy lathe motor geared 15/96 and it goes about 3 or 4mph. I actually would like it geared lower, but I can't go any lower without changing the motor mount.

| Sure ya can... GD-400 reduction... Put yer motor to that and the pinion on the GD and you'll have a MUCh slower rig without modding the mount...

I've tried the Integy lathe motors...but they just didn't feel like they had enough torque, after searching around I found a hand wound modified with a high turn arm works best. I've tried V2 50/55 turn, I'm happiest with the amount of torque my checkpoint 65 turns put out. Real smooth and the brushes last forever...plus the motors look way more trick than the lathe motors did. I bought mine from Team Brood.
