Default Transmitter/receiver compatibility

I've been trying to find the answer to this question on the forum but am not having any luck. It appears that, through a series of unfortunate evenst, I fried by much of the electronics on my Wheely King. I have ordered a new ESC (Moped) and a new steering Servo (TP mg945). I think my receiver is dead as well.

My question is can you use different radios and receivers in combination if you use the correct crystals. For example, will a Traxxas receiver work with my HPI radio if I take the crystal from my old HPI receiver.

I've read that all AM receivers will work will all AM radios - is this true? If so, will all crystals fit in all receivers or are their different "sockets"?

I know this may be a stupid question but I need the answer soon as I want to order whatever parts ASAP - my crawler is going to be down now for at least three weeks and its killing me.

Thanks for any help.

Sean

So, something like this

Would work with the stock Wheely King TX?

OK perhaps another dumb question but could I buy a Traxxas TQ3 TX and RX without the crystals and use the ones from my HPI radio system? Are the crystals compatible across systems of different makes?

I'm learning - slowly!!!

yes they should, many of us are using radio shack crystals, 27 mhz is 27mhz no matter who makes it, in theory anyway

rockwerks:

I really appreciate your quick and very helpful responses. Can I bother you with one more?

I am looking at this set:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tchlink:top:us

Would this receiver be a simply drop-in for use with the Moped ? I am still trying to get my head around the BEC thing.

Cheers,
Sean

I added/edited another quick question to my last post but you responded before I got a chance to post it - is the TQ3 in the link above a simple drop in with the Moped and single servo.

Last question, I promise!!

yes it will work fine. The moped can be tricky to set up from time to time. but a good basic esc

BEC ratings on the ESC are the amount of power that the esc uses to power radio and servo equipment.

bec's are rated in volts/ amps. the higher the numbers the better

Thanks much again. All has been answered with the great help you've provided. I will now order the parts and play the waiting game.

Cheers and thanks,

27AM will work with any 27AM... However, 75AM won't work with any 75AM... I been looking for a FUT 75AM RX for a while now...

I'm trying to get a 2nd RX for my Futaba 2PL and it seems it'd be cheaper to buy a whole new radio as I can't use just any 75AM RX... The 2PL RX is like, $60, the whole radio without servo's is about $70... >sigh< I guess I'll hafta break down and get another 2PL... Or wait a month-ish for the DX3R...
