| Another Crawler Noob!!!!
Awesome site guys!!! I've been an R/C guy since 1986 when i got my first real r/c- a Blackfoot of couse.Over the years i've had them all-monsters,street,boats & planes. Now ive been hangin' around here and really like the looks of the Crawlers.Been seriously eyeballing the new Axial Scorpion.Definately looks like a winner. With all the brushless & lathe motor craze going on i ask if a low turn motor such as a 14T double will work in a crawler?Im trying to put together an order and i'm looking at the Trinity Speed Gems motors-specifically the 14T Serpentine motor. Also looking at the new Novak Rooster ESC to handle the throttle chores. Also hows some Epic 3000mah nimh 7.2V batteries sound for fuel.Any pointers on this would be appreciated. Thanks!!! |

I would stick with higher turn motors for the torque....

The lower the turns the less torque the motor will have in general, but it will spin faster. The faster motors also seem to lack some fine throttle control. With brushless you get solid torque with a slightly faster motor, plus exelent throttle control. |

I would go with a 55t, or a 35t if you want a littile speed. If you go with a 14t motor you will not have the low end torque you need for crawling. The motor will just stall out, and get hot when you get up against a rock.

Thanks for the replys to my questions guys.I guess i'll go with a lathe motor then.Thats a bonus too-there half the price of the Trinity motor!!! Also- i just put my beloved REVO on ebay tonight to fund this crawler expedition.I really love the nitro trucks but it just seemed to be a pain in the butt lately to run it.Electric has minimal field gear.
