Default MAPP torch??

Will a MAPP self ignite torch burn hot enough to braze steel brake line tubing with pre-fluxed brass brazing rods?
DC
I've been told it won't, I have a regular blue bottle propane torch and it won't get hot enough.

Your link didn't work correctly, kept wanting my zip code to help me find the closest home depot. I already know where it is. Can anybody tell me what makes MAPP gas so much better (hotter) than propane? DC

It works better with oxygen. Home Depot sells a kit that uses oxygen and mapp gas for $50

Yes I have one of those kits, but it uses oxygen like mad. I have went through 4 canisters of oxygen while still running on the same propane cylinder. All this oxygen only brazed one 3ft stick of flux coated brass rod.
At over 5 bucks per oxygen cylinder, its getting pretty pricey might quick!!!! Thats why I was wondering if the MAPP torches did the job. That way I would only have to buy one canister to work with.

Just mapp gas will work, but the oxygen helps. Think of solder with a 60w iron verses a 100w iron. Not a big deal, but the money you pump into oxygen alone will add up. I have been asking a ton of these questions lately. I obviously want to build a tuber, but I don't want to keep buying oxygen either. Welders cost to much so I will probly just use the mapp torch I use to sweat copper. I don't think propane would come close enough heat wise to braise steel, but it might do aluminum. Let me know how it works out for you.

I looked at those and yes they are nice. I have a little larger one made by bernzomatic and if you use them you better be prepared to invest alot of money in oxygen bottles!!!!

The benzomatic self ignite torch works fine. It'll be easier if you use silver solder instead of brass rods. It melts at a lower temp and flows better, giving you cleaner looking joints.

with Brass Brazing Rods

with Silver Solder

Both made w/a Mapp torch.
