| Thinking of building a tuber.
I posted in the newbie general about a good crawler to start with and everyone directed me to the AX-10. It seems a formidable platform, but I'd probably end up ditching the stock chassis and replacing it with either a tuber or an x-trail chassis so I figured why not just start with a tuber and put AX10 parts on it, but the question is, since I'm going to have to just piece it together as I can afford it, would it be smart to start with a Gopher or similar chassis than just the AX-10 kit? I'm not worried about electronics because I've got a few local connections to get some cheap.

if you want a chassis now, i would say ya to buying a pre-made like the gopher, but also buying tubing and supplies so that you can start making your own... or even just buy a chassis, run it for a bit, see what how it is, then if you think (for example) the shock mounts could be changed... change them, see what it does, and go froom there, maybe just modify your first one, then while you have a truck together, you can start designin and building one, that way, you can run your truck while your buildin, and then also have your own chasssis

The ax-10 kit is a great platform to start with. with a few minor modifications (cheap) it can be a very competitive crawler. I would suggest starting with the kit and then going from their. That way you will have a rig that you can drive right off the bat instead of waiting for months until you have accumulated enough parts to have a drivable rig. |
