Default doing axial build but have a few questions on esc's.

thanks to my dear mother in law i will be getting my ax10 for xmas. i do have just one question though. i am having a tough time deciding on what esc to run. i had a teken rebel 2 in my clod crawler but now i don't see too much in the forums about the tr2's. i am not very good at soldering so i am sort of steering away from the novak crawler esc. what would be the ideal choice from the the teken rebel 2 and the novak crawler? features, warranty, etc...? thank you all for helping.

just buy a mamba max! and have john solder the connector on for you.

A Mamba Max would be a good choice for a brushed motor in a crawler. I've heard the new Novak Rooster crawler esc can be a good choice for a mid priced esc. The older ones had some issues with weak drag brakes and the bec not being to strong, but I think they took care of all that with the new ones.

The rebel 2 can have a small delay going to reverse and the bec isn't all that strong, so they have been shyed away from in the comp crawling scene.

if you got the green, then like the previous post said. get a mamba from john and he will solder it all up for you. I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the rooster crawler. soldering is very simple, easy to learn, and a very useful skill in the rc hobby. You can do a quick search on google about "how to solder" and find all the helpful tips and pointers you need. when i got my rooster I hadn't soldered before either. I grabbed one of the old titan motors from my e-maxx and practiced a couple times on that. Once you get the hang of it, its simple. I was so stoked after i learned it that i re wired my whole bass guitar.

If you decide to solder your own stuff, don't cheap out on a soldering iron, if you get a cheapie 25 watt unit you'll have a hard time. Here's what I use, with great success.

overkill? possibly. I wouldn't use it on a circuit board, but for 12 and 14 ga wire, it kicks butt. If you ever need to do work with stuff that's more temperature sensitive, use something like this

Avoid "heatless" soldering irons, they don't work for crap. Avoid Butane soldering irons, they also suck.
