Default TA02 related questions

Glad for this new section, since crawling is really the only RC knowledge I have. I want to turn my TA02 S10 into a longer and much wider go-fast stadium truck type. I have a plan to use aluminum and make the chassis to the wheelbase I want. The problem I'm running into is on the width. I know there were buggies based on this chassis, like the top force and manta ray. The suspension arms and dogbones are hard to find though. Is there anywhere to buy them new still? Will any other arms fit, like the DF series? Or even non-tamiya suspension parts? Thanks for any help.

I've been looking on there, mainly because of cheap aluminum parts, haha. I can't find any longer arms for the TA02 though. They carry parts for the DF01,02,03 though, that's why I was hoping they would fit. I have a couple leads for used parts though, so we'll see what turns up.

I tend to play around with stuff I have laying around, even when it's pointless. So that's what I did, how about Losi XX arms?

Yeah, not sure on the dogbones, the longest for a TA series I've found are 3 1/16" lon which may work. I am going to try making a set, maybe strong enough and if not atleast I'd have the length I need then find some ones that length. As for the main shaft connecting front to rear, that's easy, I've made one before from 1/4" solid aluminum. Making this thing reminds me of when I first got into crawling a few years back, piecing stuff together that wasn't meant to be.

Well, found someone to trade my s10 suspension arms and dogbones for ones from a dirt thrasher. So out with the losi arms, just waiting on the new parts to arive. I did make a prop shaft from 1/4" aluminum and fix a small problem with the bushings in the front gearbox. Someone had put the bushings on the output shaft in the wrong order. Also made a sheetmetal pan to help with mounting the battery and electronics. I'll get pics once the suspension is back on.

are you going to make an top plate to help stiffen up that chassis a little? seems like that aluminum might flex a little

Well, I do plan to do something for the same reason you stated. I'm just undecided on which way to go. I thought about a plate but then I thought two links might serve the same purpose. With rodends at the ends and running from the longer chassis bolts. Here's a pic of some threaded rod I used as a quick mockup for one link.

By the way, how much can a stock TA02 withstand as a basher stadium truck? I have some 2.2 swamp dawgs that aren't being used and I was wondering if a 4 3/4" tire would be instant death. The original plan was for stock TLT tires and a set of sand paws, still is the plan.
