Default Simple Drag car (now with vid)

A few of the locals like to drag race their Jatos and VXL Rustlers.

I went out one day to watch some of the racing and laugh at all the smack talk that goes on.

They asked me if I had anything to race, told'm I'd put something together.

I pulled out the old Tamiya 415 that's been here for quite a while, Mamba Max with 5700kV motor, 3 cell 4200mAh Thunder Power Li-Po.

Just needed wheels/tires and a body.

Should get the job done.

I'm not even gonna talk smack.

One of the guys talked to me today...

"I heard you built a car. You gonna race?"

"Yup"

"What's in it?"

"Motor and a servo"

"You give me three and the break?"

"No."

"What'ya gonna gimme?"

"Nothin'"

"Jason, I know you're gonna be fast. What'ya gonna gimme?"

"Asswhoopin'."

Told him I'd set the car down at the line and when he's ready to race all he has to do is line up.

He says he's not scared...but he won't race heads up.

My xxx-4 g+ catches air if I throttle it the wrong way on that exact same setup. That's going to be insane. The hardest part is trying to drive in a straight line when the tires balloon.

My concern isn't the tires, it's the drive belts.

I can get foams for this thing, can't do anything for the unwilling belts.

If I had a TC3 I'd have used it.

Talked to my wife tonight, told her what I was working on.

"That reminds me of the time you were racing the oval cars and threw a foam out of the tire."

Yes, they were well glued.

How do you think an HPI E10 would hold up to something like that?

E10...should be good...but doesn't it have plastic driveshafts?

They'd twist like pretzels with this kind of power.

Yeah belts and ball diffs. Not very good from a durability standpoint. You'll get a few good runs out of it.

I have a TC3, 5900kv motor 12cells. Chews through diffs.

Friend has a Hpi rally with about the same setup. Chews through belts.

With the 3s yours is lighter so there is a good chance your belts will last longer.

Are those tires HPI Belted radials? Might be a good idea. Makes a big difference once you open it up.

Hmm... I'm thinking of a 4wd sedan to turn into a rally car, nothing extreme but your Vette got me thinking.

Looks sick though Jason, be sure to get vid of the asswhoopin'.

*EDIT*

For some stupid reason I read that as "What's an E10?"

Have you gotten a chance to drive it yet? You know it's going to be insaine right?

I've got a TC3 that I run the MM 5700 combo in with a 3 cell.. Geez... Thank god it's 4wd, that kind of power throws it around like a rag doll.

I've got a nice smooth parking lot close by with a narrow grass divider in the middle, it's like a huge oval. Once you get used to the straightaway speeds you start to forget how much velocity you are carrying into the corners, gets a little hairy.. Absolutely insaine.

Btw, What's up man, long time no talk.

Yeah, I just soldered the connectors on the ESC and powered it up...forgot that I had yet to glue the tires.

So far I've found all the tires and 3 out of 4 foams.

Insane is what I'm going for.

Going to glue tires now.

Go with foams -- and don't bother to cut them. I would only get about two packs out of a set of foams on my Micro RS4 before they were all chewed up. Then again...I had a 540 in it.

I had a 540 micro as well.

I just remembered that I had a tub of on-road tires in the pit trailer. Should've ransacked those.

If I had foams I'd have used them...along with a TC3.

Just shot video of throttle curve testing.

That'll be up soon, it's rendering now.

Video is up.

Throttle curve and timing seems good, just need to get it to track straight at speed.

Will have to find all the toe blocks for the rear end and get to crankin' on those turnbuckles.

Even with the suspension out of tune it has potential.
