Default Sand Scorcher

a few better pics of one of my many Sand Scorchers. This is gonna be a runner, and is very hopped up and not at all stock...

I will install electrics and an interior, along with the driver and some more details soon, so I can finally enjoy driving of the museum pieces.

Nice job on the body making it a split window. I am really partial to those old Tamiyas as that was my first R/C car. I spent thousands on aftermarket parts in early 1980s dollars.

Stunning!!!!

I love that Tamiya design and you've really made it look great. Glad to hear it's going to be a runner.
Someday I'll restore mine.......someday.

Bent70, here is a couple of shots of the original chassis (well, this is actually also a highly hopped up chassis, featuring a custom carbon chassis plate, custom made front and rear alu cage bumbers, alu wheels etc), at least it looks pretty much the same.

it's gonna be a surf beetle, some may have seen the scratch built surf board from another thread under scale accessories, the body is awaiting paint, and I am making a scale period roof rack - have already made some scale surf decals etc, will post more pics when I get around to completing this.

I have been into collectiong and restoring vintage Tamiyas for several years, and have about 40 in total (mostly Sand Scorchers, Bruisers/Blazers/hilux 4x4 and Wild Willys) - and spend most of my time on tamiyaclub, which is the #1 resource for info on these old classics.

The green bug is still not done - I am working on the interior and driver, and need to get the electorincs in, I just have too many projects going on at the same time liek probably everybody here

Dirthead - if you still have all those aftermarket parts, you can finance your RC itch for a few years, parts for these cars, and especially hopups are hard to come by.
The diff I have installed in the green one cost almost as much as a NIB CR-01 kit alone!!!

Please tell me your going to give us a video!!!!

I also have a vintage tamiya super champ that im restoring
my problem so far is that I cant figure out what motor size it
takes? Heres a pic of it as I got it..

If you could give a little advice as to a motor it would be
much appreciated...Thanks Rick..

The gear box is designed to fit the standard silver can motors that came with the kit back in the days.

I have mounted a Tamiya Sport Tuned in the green beetle, and in order to make a modern motor fit, you need to dremel the inside of the gearbox a little. Check out this "how-to-guide" on tamiyaclub.com.

I have finsished a Super Champ chassis also now, and opted for the original motor as it will be a shelf queen - body is awaiting paint...

Good luck with the SC - let me know if you have any q's, or even better, do a search on tamiyaclub.
