Default Wheely King 4WD Basher

I've moved over to an AX-10, so my WK is now no longer needed for crawling. I like to bash around at high speed on my gravel/dirt driveway (it's almost 1/4 mile long for the record!) and in the paddock (mown grass) next to me from time to time to blow off a little steam when I haven't got the patience for crawling.

I really like the look of the Savage and Traxxas Maxx trucks, with that mean, low slung 4x4 image. I'd like to make my WK look something like. Here's what it's currently like:

As you can see it's been messed about a bit

Stock Chassis, Electronics, Motor and Transmission
Axles are as stock but diff-locked (can soon pull the lockers out though)
Steering servo is slung on one side of the axle top.
Steering servo is also broken, so I'll likely replace it wit ha Tower Pro 995MG
Suspension is 4-linked using Traxxas links
Wheelbase is at 12-and-a-bit inches
Extended Drive Shafts (also Traxxas)
The Shocks are stock but have been shortened 1/2 inch using internal sleeving (I did it while I was goofing with a different chassis and crawling)
Stock Wheels & Tyres (they look cool IMHO)
It's got a nice big bash plate on the front axle that I made myself. I have a spare incase I break it too

I got some HPI Wheel widening spacers to push the wheelbase out a bit (more stability), and I'm probably gonna fit alu knuckles, Cs and steering bars at the front, alu lockout and straight shafts at the back, alloy chassis plates, alu shock towers to it.

I'm looking for some recommendations on where to go from there.
What shocks can I fit, bearing in mind I will probably want shorter ones wit threaded bodies?
What makes a good basher/racer?
Is Brushless the way to go for power and speed?
What Crawler mods should I undo, if any?

All help is appreciated...

I like it. Looks long, lower and mean. Should work perfect for what you wanna do with it.

Get yourself some shorter shocks and a smaller(not as tall) chassis, then just mount everything lower.

In my opinion, your lower links should be parallel with the ground, which yours are, so it looks like you've modded that thing and got it as low as it's going to get, without buying a new chassis and shocks.

The current shortened stock shocks are about 81-103mm range. I sleeved them inside to shorten them, but I'll eventually re-fit it with alu shocks. HPI make some nice alu threaded body shocks for the Nitro MT 2 that look like they'd drop right on, any other recommendations?

I've tied the receiver and ESC on as low as I can get em, and the battery sits on the upper front links, so most of the weight is down low already (again, because it used to be a crawler).

Also, should I spring it stiff or softer, or somewhere down the middle?
