Default Sand Rail, Dragster, Buggy go fast. Update~

So I have an old XL rustler layin around, and Ive seen some of the rails built on this site. I figured I give it a go, something fun, something fast and hopefully cool looking.

It will be a single seater, Recaro cell phone otw, with good ole Willy as the driver. It will be powered with a Novak 4.5 motor and the cheapest sensored esc that will handle that.

I started "TRYING" to draw a reference in Solidworks 2d. Its comming along okish I guess. Heres the side view so far.

I want it skinny, low and long. If anyone cares to add or take away from the drawing please do. Im up for suggestions. Once I get meh stuff in I can set down and start framing it out.

I hope, my problem I cant seem to find pictures of any one seater rails. Are they all 2 and 4 seaters?

I did some more drawring in Solidwerks. I think this is the actual style im going to go with. Its got a 12.5" wheelbase, a little over 16" long and 3.75 tall.

This should allow me to have a full interior if I put electronics in front of and behind the driver.

Are you looking to do a sand buggy or a desert race buggy?

Both? Sand rail style with desert race suspension? I have seen the little racers like you have shown, I just think they are ugly. I almost like sand drag rails the most, but I want to take this off sweet jumps.

Something like is sexy to me. But it needs jumping suspension ;)

I want to use something other then brake line on this build. Im looking at stainless or chromoly. Any reason to use one or the other? I found 4130 on Mcmaster car for $19.95 a 6' stick. Im correct in thinking this is chromoloy?

If it is its actually cheaper than stainless and is what I would use if none object.

My main concern is if I can still bend it with a hand bender. This build is mostly made up of angle cuts, but it still has a couple bends ill need to make.

grainger has a little better pricing on stainless than McMaster right now. They also have some larger size tubing on clearance.

You are correct, that is 4130 chromoly. I dont know how easy its going to bend with a hand bender, but im sure it will still be possible. Howcome you want to use it over the steel brake line?

Since most of the frame will be strait and angle cuts, I wanted something that was a bit stiffer, and less bendy as brake line. I also like the fact I can just cut and braise, dont have to spend time cleaning the galv off the brake line.

might I suggest cutting the frame off right after the rear axle. That way the tire is the farthest point back and not the chassis.

I had to chop some of the front off to retain the 12.5" wb, but I agree it just looks better.

I had some brake line laying around. 1 thing lead to another.

Enough for tonight. I should have the majority of the cage work done tomorrow.

Nice! Glad to see it's coming along so fast rather than being on a computer screen. Cool idea.

Only on the computer screen long enough to give me an idea of what it would look like, and measurements.
