Looks like you are loosing prime when your at speed. May I suggest adding some weight to keep the jet primed better.

I have three of them actually.

I ran one with the smaller vxl system it ran great, but just like yours it lost prime easily.

I ran another one with the 540 vxl system and although a little slower it stayed primed all the time. It sat pretty low in the water, but because of this the jet always had a constant flow going through the jet even when it caught a little air.

So as far as adding weight I would start with a few ounces 2-3 right near the jet and go from there if you feel it is still loosing prime too often add a couple more, adding more then 6 ounces though is probably a bit excessive.

In my heavy boat I ran 2200mah 3 cell batteries, a full sized steering servo, and a 540 size traxxas vxl system and I was pretty happy with the result.

You may find you don't like that much weight so play with it to find your happy medium.

Hope this helps.

Your parts list came up blank for me, but this is what I have had good luck with. The out runner doesn't need cooling.
Turnigy 450 H2218 Brushless outrunner 3200KV
and
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...C_4A_UBEC.html
I think almost any 450 heli outrunner would work in the 2900 to 3500KV range. I've used an old Align motor for years. I would try this one next.
Turnigy Typhoon 450H 2218H Heli Motor 3450kv (450 class) I use the 500 version in my bigger jet boats with good results. This guy sells some cool after market stuff for the NQD
http://stores.ebay.com/SicRC?_rdc=1 A full size sevo will take care of the weight issue in the above posts the slower the better and you don't need powerful, waterproof it somehow

I want one and would like to see a step by step how to of the mods.

How does the stock impeller hold up to added power?

There is quite a bit on the internet if you google "NQD Tear Into mods".
That is where I started.
But here is a link to mine, LINK
It skips a few steps, but I will give you an idea on what is involved.

Nice howto Hyper, it covers the basic's very well. I've had some trouble finding a coupler 2.3 to 3.17 the common motor size. there is a ton of info out there and people eager to help.

I recently picked up a RTR modded NQD from a clubmember. I freakin LOVE this thing! Soooo much fun in the creekbed!
It needs freshened up, but runs great! The little Turnigy outrunner on 3S is very spunky!

turtle has a good jetbat thread, and there is an ungodly huge nqd/jetboat thread on rcuniverse. so huge its almost impossible to find the right info, but if you want to read alot its there.

Thanks for the links. I was overwhelmed by Google searches and wanted to narrow the info down. They sure do look fun. Think I might build one.

I bought Josh's boat earlier this summer.

I order a water cooled Turingy 30A esc and kinetic racing silcone water jacket for the vxl motor.

Need to go to grouper or ose and get a ujoint instead of that solid shaft coupler it makes them run way way smoother well worth the effort to put in I might even have one laying around but kid might want to hang on to it but I can send you a pic if you are interested there are kind of hard to find on sites to or they us to be and I had two make one out of two they didn't have 3mmx3mm back 4or 5 years ago they might now..

I been searching all over for a ujoint and can't find the correct size. It's been down, due the stock coupler set screw stripping out. I ordered new stock coupler... Waiting on it coming from Hong Kong.

I asked on rcgroups, was told not go ujoint route and stick with coupler.

Crazy we run ujoint for long time or should say kids have good 30 40 runs on them did lose one due to rock in pump but was just looking they don't make same style or at least at cornwell boats offshore eletric has your solid one as do I have 2 you have to drill one end out unless they have changed pump shaft to 3mm use to be 2.5 or some thing like that I do have ujouint but kid wants to keep sorry but if you need solid coupler there yours if you ever need again but like saying you can get at ose well sorry and as far running ujoint we love ours almost O vibration nill diffrent as night day even sounds better.
