| ~TSS~ TA05 MDF Drifter
i came across this old V1 TA05 kit on sale stupid cheap plus free shipping so i picked it up. since i planed on keeping this car for a long time, i decided to go with genuine tamiya hopups over 3racing etc. i also picked up a Fijon MDF kit off ebay diffs built and starting on the MDF chassis a little more done although it doesnt look like much this next pic took me another whole evening. the belts were too tight for my taste, so i ended up tearing it down a million times and redoing it until i was happy. i completely removed the front tensioner and rotated the front diff cam all the way rearward. i moved the rear tensioner all the way forward, and i also swaped the tensioner and cross brace locations on the motor mount arches. arms and knuckles on. i was very impressed with the fijon kit. everything fit perfect and all the finishes are really nice. instructions were pretty decent too. more work to do... |

Looks good man! Can't wait to see what you do with the body. How do belts hold up on go fast stuff? I've really only messed with shaft drive.

thanks ive got something cool in mind for the body. well drifters arent really fast. and mine are pretty mildly powered, but my hpi pro has the origonal belts on it from 15 years ago. and it had many high powered races under its "belt" (lol) before it was turned a drifter. most common mistake is running them too tight. |

Thanks for the info. I wasn't thinking about the drifter part. In a way you would think that would be worse on the belts because of the constand rpm's. The reason I asked is because I am thinking about getting one of the new RC182's. I love my RC18R just kinda wondered why they went from shaft to belt drive. Its been a while since I've had a drifter. Might be time for another one. |
