Default Supra Pigeon! (Non rock crawler)

Just a few shots of my Supra R/c Drifter (Pigeon body I airbrushed), with a couple of my baby pigeons.

Thanks guys. Yeah I was waiting for a big ol' dump on it too but he must have liked it..haha.
Yeah its different. I wanted to try painting something by hand with a brush (the pigeon on the hood) and kinda work my two favorite hobbies, and came up with this. Figured it wasnt something a person seen to often on a rc car..

They are racing homers. Thats 2 of my younger ones that are a couple weeks old. I have close to 40 of them (all different colors but this one matched the one I did on the body)

Now Im gonna sound really dumb, but how do you get them to come back to you when they're racing? I watched that 'Tyson' show one time and didnt really understand how you know who won or how you get them back? I may sound dumb but I'm curious lol.

Nah thats not a dumb question. Its one I ask myself too. Theres no proven answer to that. They just "come home". If I feed them to close to the time I release them, then they are more apt to fly around and check out the scenery. If I feed them light the night before so they are hungry, they will head straight home. Same goes for if they have a mate waiting for them at home as well.
But yeah, they seem to have a built in radar of sort. The average races are 350 miles and 500 miles and birds usually have average speeds around 60 mph. Pretty sweet.

Thats pretty crazy but cool at the same time. I never would have thought anything of birds racing until I watched that 'Tyson'. Guess ya learn something new every day lol.

From what I have read, scientists can't even agree on what it is that makes pigeons find their direction so well. There are many theories though. Either, it's cool what they do.

Its always good to have inspiration!
That is a sweet paint job, nice work!
My only question is, I see the pigeon on the hood, but those dont look like wingspans of a pigeon all over the body flying..but its probably just me

in real life, as a 1:1 that would be very cool to see, minus the rear wing

After reading the other comments, Im actually curious now..where is it they 'race' to? How do they know to go to a 'specific' destination, then return home? You put a cone on the top of abuilding 500 miles away with a treat on it?

What they do is usually a club will put together a race where people will go and register their birds the night before. These guys will load the birds into a big trailer and drive to a destination. Homers will automatically fly back to their homes (Like said above, there is no proven reason why. They just do), so they will fly back to each of their owners loft. They will have a band on their leg so when they walk through a door on their loft, it will register the time it come back in. So then once all the birds are back, they will calculate the time and distance to get the average speed. The person with the highest average speed is the one who is the winner.
Alot of training goes into it as well. Im currently training my new birds that were born over the winter to "trap" (Which basically means to walk through a one was door of metal rods).
It really is a great hobby. VERY addiciting. I started out with 4 birds last summer in a 3x6 cage. Later that fall I built a $2k fully insulated loft for them and added 13 more birds. I think I might have overdone the loft a little bit because they been screwing like rabbits in their I now have around 40 birds.
