| Tamiya Grasshopper!! (ya thats right a grasshopper)
Wanted to do something totally different with one of Tamiya's simplest vehicles....and i only had enough money left to buy this. Started with motor upgrade before opening the box, also vintage. I used the yellow one. Says its from 1991 quintrax canadian cup race. This is the first time im using an airbrush for anything, so on the paint goes to get rid of the blah blah black chassis and gearbox. |

Ya i have some lame i might light coat it with ;) I did some stripes, pretty much using this body to learn about my airbrush and different masking tapes and such. I have another body ordered so that will have some time spent on it. |

Very nice. I still have a couple of OG Hornets in a box somewhere. They were fun back in the day.

I love the old tamiya designs. I have a lunchbox, midnight pumpkin, and a hilift hilux. I love building them too.

How much abuse will the Grasshopper tranny take? I'm interested in buying 3 of them or Hornets for my 2 boys and thought about 17.5 turn motors for even racing.

| Re: Tamiya Grasshopper!! (ya thats right a grasshopper) Bit of a necropost, but the Hornet/Grasshopper transmission will take anything, in my experience. They made them for kids who were going to use reverse on a servo-controlled (non-ESC) speed controller. I had a Lunch Box and a Hornet back in the day, managed to break the Hornet chassis, the Lunch Box body mounts, the Lunch box steering, but the trannies just keep going. Just make sure you keep the grease port screwed shut.
