| Ground Pounder vs Barbarian
Hey all, I'm new to the site. Own a couple of Traxxas trucks. Never owned a solid axle truck. But I am looking into buying/building one here really soon. In your opinion for someone looking to buy/build a solid axle monster truck for racing/bashing. Which would you all recommend? I haven't had much luck on google or any forums that discuss this however I came across someone on here who converted their GP to use Wraith drivetrain and that's what brought me to this site.

Barbarian with axial ar60 axles . Unlimited hop ups for them . The ground pounder chassis bends very easy .and axles need expensive braces to be "ok" . And they are weird looking . Also need hardened gear sets . Drive shafts suck . Have you tried rcmt.net ? Clodtalk also has some shafty builds . |

I tried to setup an account on rcmt however it says I'm banded from the site??? Never have I registered an account with them. But thanks for the info. I was sorta leaning in the direction of the barbarian Thanks for the info guys. It's been a good while since I fooled around with RC stuff and glad to see so many options for solid axle build trucks other than clodbuster builds. Forgive me for asking but what's a KK2? The other thing I'm running into an issue with is weather or not to buy the kit from Axial and part out what I need then sell the rest or just buy what I need individually? I saw the kit for $310 on eBay with free shipping and one of my local hobby shops has it for the same price plus tax. I didn't bother to ask what the individual parts would cost direct from the hobby shop but I guess I can call and ask or go to the shop with a list. Hard to get sound advice on solid axle monster truck builds in my area since no one really builds monster truck setups like that and they usually stick to your Maxx and Savage stuff around here. What is the KK2? It is very hard to get monster truck build advice in my area. Not too many people, that I am aware of, or at least the hobby shops know of, build solid axle trucks other than clodbuster stuff or they just run Maxx or Savage trucks. When I called my local hobby shop asking them for parts the guy asked me what I was doing with all these parts and if I own a crawler? I said no however I am building a solid axle monster truck and using a CPE frame called the Barbarian. He tried to sell me on an Axial kit rather than letting me buy everything individually. Would it make sense to buy the kit crawler or buy only what I need? Last edited by THX_138; 07-13-2015 at 07:38 AM. |

HB has solid advice. The ar60 housing is way stronger than the ground pounder housing. The ground pounder chassis bends really easily too. The barbarian ar60 combo is proven. I would also check out the KK2.

I've owned both. the Ground Pounder lasted 1 month in my possession. Currently still loving my Wraith-Based Barbarian!!! The Ground Pounder is super fragile. The axles snap right at the pumpkin. Red Cat also has very few hop ups. They have some, just not many. Axial has a ton. Barbarian FTW!! |

WOW! That is a pretty sick chassis. Love the multi-mount positions for the shock mounts. Is that a one-off chassis? Never seen anything like that on CPE
