Default Time for a shop truck, '37 Hudson Terraplane

Saw this and got moved! Shop truck time....going to sit on a 1/4" tube frame. Pretty sure patina is in order for paint scheme.

Traxxas funny car front suspension
Scx10 rear axle, maybe a SSD housing, four link, panhard and coil over's
Maybe fenderless, kinda diggin the fenders though
Still up in the air as to motor, ESC etc.

Inspiration...

Sketch..

Frame drawing...

Partial frame....waiting for more parts

Body construction....

Got a little further on the body. The side front grill vents were more time consuming then I thought the'yd be. Think the'll work, hardest part was matching side to side. Cut out the windows, added the drip edge and side body character lines. LHS didn't get my front end parts in so I moved to the back end, hung the diff, 4 link and coil overs. Now have to wait for the front end parts so I can zero in the front track width before I can start the fenders. Have it sitting on a set of rear mock up tires and wheels. Still shopping for the final setup.

Thanks BigChevyTruckin!

Well Tackled the fenders.....fronts for now, They kicked my butt! Couldn't devise any other method to build these with all the compound curves other then to make a frame / skeleton, then skin the out side. Killer time consumer! they're not pretty, but so far they are acceptable. Then didn't like my rear lower coil over support, looked to bulky, so made a tubular version. Still waiting for front suspension parts.

Rear shot of the coil over support.

Got a very rough start on the bed and rear fenders tonight. Still waiting on my front suspension parts from my LHS. Next time I'll go to fleabay, I would have had the parts 5 days ago. Oh well, always try to support them when possible. Got some more filler sanded as well. Lots of work left to do. Should have the correct wheels and tires by Friday.

Way to go, Joe!, You going to rat rod it, or finish it out in a nice candy metalflake?

Thanks Mike! Yes, wanted a candy color, either red or blue. We'll see how smooth I can get it first.

What are you thinking for wheels and tires? I love the look of narrow, tall, old school wheels with white walls.

Agreed and thanks!! Going to see how low I can get it without rubbing. And candy or ratty......torn. I have a lot of body work to go before I decide.

I have a set of vintage HPI big n little's coming. Have to see if I like the look of the rears, may not fill up the fender enough.

So FINALLY received the Traxxas front end parts tonight. Got them mocked up.....had a issue with track width. Needed to section 3/8" out of the bulkhead. So I sectioned / bolted the halves together, added the chassis tabs and seems to fit just right.

Lots of Traxxas stuff....

Quick mock up - trial fit...

Mock up and temp mounted....

Thanks! It's different this time, hadn't tried a scratch chassis and styrene build before.

Little more progress....felt it needed a rear panhard / track locator as the rear diff wasn't staying centered, And mocked up a servo and steering linkage. Got the final bits of the bed completed, and got the wheels in. No tires yet. Going to try to narrow the fronts when the rubber comes in.

Forgot about the wheels, I ordered matte so I could see if I could replicate the old "Torque Thrust" wheel look. Mixed a blend of matte black and silver and painted the spokes.
