Default Sidewinder 3 5700 kv BAD COGGING

Hello!

Ok so long story short

Sidewinder 3
Castle Sensorless 5700kv motor

the system is mounted in a old school Tamiya Lunchbox

i have being running is system with ZERO issues for months now.

Really fast setup
A couple of weeks ago swapped everything to a new chassis cause the old one was really beat up.

Since swapping it has started cogging REALLY bad..to a point where it doesn't even start from a dead stop cause of the cogging. if you push start it it runs fine with no issues but from a dead stop this thing is un-driveable.

any hints or point to the right direction?

PS. already changed to a new esc and new motor and issue is still there

thanks in advance

Either you have a bind in the drive train or you have a loose connection somewhere.

Binding is something in your tranny or axles not spinning smoothly. Something is causing it to drag and that creates friction and heat. And that causes your motor and esc to work harder and causes more cogging.

- Disconnect the motor from the drivetrain
- Raise the vehicle off the ground
- Do the wheels spin easily and freely by hand without motor connected?
- Push the vehicle on the ground
- Do the wheels spin easily and freely without motor connected?
- Does motor shaft spin normally without binding by hand?

- Reconnect the motor
- Lift the vehicle off the ground, and give it a bit of throttle. Does it cog in the air, or only on the ground?

If all of these check out, it is an electronics issue somewhere. Is this a sensored motor? Maybe something is malfunctioning there?

Nope and just the idea of a 5700 Kv motor in a Lunchbox is insane, nevermind it being on 3S.

im gonna try all of this hopefully today after work

cogging happens in both the air and on the ground.. if i go ahead and give it a push start the motor starts normally and keeps running fine until either i come to a complete stop or almost to a dead stop and starts cogging again

There's your problem. Un-sensored motors cog pretty bad at low RPM. If you are looking at low RPM control you will want to look at sensored motors, just make sure you have an ESC that can run sensored motors.

it was running fine before and suddenly started cogging badly so it doesnt have to do with sensored and unsensored... of course unsensored motors cog just a tinny bit when starting from a dead stop but the cogging im experiencing is reeeeeeally bad
