It looks great but yup, i expect there will be durability issues. It is definitely not built to the same standard as a Losi U4 style rig. Not sure from the video, but I am guessing it is significantly smaller than a Lasernut and/or the Rock Rey

looks good tempted to order one but I think waiting for further reviews will be wise ... lots of details but seems like the usual RC4WD issues just from the video. loose screws and

parts coming off some places but obviously has to be driven scale and likely if you take your time to go throughout the rig prior to its mayden voyage will make the experience

worth it. Price is not far off other platforms and I can see plenty of hoop up options pop up for this platform, exciting to see so many options offered in the market today.

Shame they didn't reinforce those body panels. Looks like a few other potential failure points as well. But overall this thing looks pretty promising and definitely a big leap beyond the norm for rc4wd.

I'll probably gift one to myself for Christmas. I would like another scale project, and Ultra 4 trucks are my favorite.

It certainly appears that RC4WD is giving us the scale factor we've been asking for in terms of looks and performance.

But it'll take several battery packs to convince me or anyone that RC4WD's engineers actually test these things before selling them.

I have the same concerns about durability. Size wise it's pretty close to the bomber. ~14" wheelbase and just over 11"wide. Personally I could do without all the extremely scale bits. It looks great, but just more stuff to break or rattle off on a car that should (could) be relatively fast.

It would be perfect if I could get my hands on the chassis and skid and I'd work the rest out on my own.

I had this thought as well, though time will tell how strong the driveline is. Fingers crossed

As I scrolled down I did not see the RC4WD section and then non crawler section popped up on the screen. I was tired of scrolling(was on my phone) and so just posted it. I figured it didn't really matter that much. This site barely bumps 15 threads per day anyway... lol

Just ordered mine. Now we see if I can wait until Christmas to start the tinkering....

Step 1: stare at it.
Step 2: disassemble and paint the cage.

Looks fantastic, and love the features. $499 is not a bad price point at all TBH.

Having said that, I spent 2 hours last night drilling out a set of expensive RC4WD wheels since the hardware completely rounded out after 1 tire install. Going to take a lot to convince me the durability is there.

It looks awesome.

After the POS that is my Trailfinder I'm extremely suspicious of its durability. It's got lots if extra features, and cables, and wears with the world's Dinkins spur gear?

One of my friends is an rc4wd team driver. He actually has one. Guess the stock motor has basically no low speed control. He promises the ring/pinion tolerances are better than any prior rc3wd axles, but that isn't saying much.

Wondering if they deliberately left the shock oil out so noone would complain that it leaked all over the inside of the box during shipping.

Visually it looks great, but deep in my mind I'm reminded of the problems I had with my Marlin out of the box. Loose screws, no thread lock, etc.

I did watch RC Drivers vid and it looked great out on the rocks. He did have a few issues, but in the end it did survive the test run. This new RTR may have to be treated like all other RTR's and disassemble and reassemble before the first drive.

I having bought one, have obviously cast my "yes" vote. That being said, I suspect it'll be like most RC cars. It'll have problems that anyone with a set of tools and some motivation will solve.

But someone who buys this thinking you can run battery after battery and never have to open your toolbox will be VERY disappointed.

Which means you can probably score a used one for $300 6 months from now!

After reviewing the instruction manual I am no longer interested in anything more than the cage.

Things I saw I really didn't like: E-clips practically everywhere. A few itty-bitty 3x6 bearings hiding in the transfer case.

A 14 tooth SPUR gear with a motor mount that doesn't appear slotted for gearing adjustment.
The engagement collars for the locking diffs are tiny.
The diff ratio is listed at 2.6 to one. I was hoping for ar44 compatible ring/pinion, and that's not the case.

Stacked planetary gears in the transmission. Like, Why?

The chubs are attached to the housing with a couple of 3x6 bolts into plastic, just like the AR60s. I could never keep these bolts from loosening. Not even by threading them into steel tubes, and even by adding two more bolts per side. Just too much leverage spread over too small a contact area.

The RC Driver review was an eye opener.

RC Driver: This is a great RC!

1 pack of relatively slow, easy driving and the vehicle practically disintegrated

RC Driver: It fell apart, but this is a great RC!

Yup, Greg is Mr. Positive.

RC4WD sent out a pretty good number to the youtube guys for promotional reviews but notice they passed over Harley Designs... the guy who loves U4 Racing but is super critical of poor craftsmanship
