| Ameture sportsman ???
Ok so I've been hearing a lot of sportsman/Ameture talk lately.... I'd like to hear peoples thoughts on this as I haven't got to speak to anyone about it really My thoughts - Spec class isn't really going to work If we were to put together a Ameture class I think it should go something like No dig shafty (of course) No pay out the only money involved should be for the venue The Ameture part being if you have had a podium finish (top three) and received a pay out with that finish you can not compete in this series The more experienced people who would volunteer there time would judge and help out And teach when needed (thinking noobs and kids) If you when the series you move on to compete with the pro's (not sure about this part) Thoughts, opinions, ???? |

I am all for anything that would get more people interested. However I kind of like the 2.2s class where anyone can drive, but you have yo run a body, and only one servo/speed controller/motor. Thoughts?

I like both ideas. I think the amature class should be Stock rigs though. No mods, stock tires that come on the vehicle, and limited to 2s lipos.

But the idea behind the Ameture class is to get people into crawling something separate from what we are doing now mostly because the courses that are at most of our levels are not noob friendly

Well the new format we are working towards IS newborn friendly as well as pro friendly. Its basically 5 gate courses with bonus gates. So a new guy has easier gates and gets a whole minute per gate. |

So you finish at gate 5 and at that point you've earned your progress points ... So are the bonus gates just extra gates then to attempt to lower your score further? Or is there some funky twist |

Exactly steve. The bonus gates are considerably harder than the main 5 gates and allow for a lower score, only if the course is finished. And they are placed between gatesand have to be progressed in order.

We ran that setup on Tuesday, and I won the second coarse by avoiding the bonuses and just finished the coarse. |

What Tom said sounds interesting dont know that im totaly sold but intrresting. From what Nick said.. Stock would be a tough thing to do. Alot of kits dont come with tires. They also leave the electronics to the builder. To put that against a box stock ax10 Rtr would be a slaughter. The other downside I see to an AM class is that we average 10 drivers per series comp. The majority have recieved pay out at some point. I dont think we currently have enough in the beginner skill level to make it work. I do understand the idea of drawing more noobs but I think this approach could water everything down. |

After crawling at josh's place yesterday I think tom's got something with this new approach not quite sold on the repeating bonus gate thing Just seems like it takes something away from things It goes from I did this better so I won to look how many times I can do this gate before time runs out doesn't sit well with me If I win... I want it to be because I beat you not because I rang the bell ten times Just my humble opinion that's all I do like the 5 makeable gates mixed with bonuses it seems to give more flexibility |

Yeah repeating stinks for someone who is too dumb to take advantage of it. |

I say no repeats, not having seen the setup, but if you want multi bonus, you should have multi gates. My opinion. I mean you would only be charged a gate penalty for hitting a gate the first time through, every repeat you are free to take that gate and go without penalty right? There are all kinds of "games" you can create, but the format layout in the rules are the ones people know, and once a gate is dead and a penalty given, it stays dead. Making it a zombie, and returned to a live status after each attempt would be the only way to make a repeating bonus work. As for the amateur thing, really everyone is, there might be a couple guys who own/operate a rc crawling related buisness that they use to fund their own play in comps, but there is no one relying on winning a comp to pay their mortgage every month. That said, some people dedicate a lot more of their expendable incomes on rc than others. I think the formats that have been put forward this year are good, because shaftys and MOAs shouldn't really be competing directly with eachother. Now for our little local stuff, you can't really seperate it out that easily. |
