Default Removing paint??

A buddy of mine bought a used body from ebay the other day. He said that you can remove the old paint for lexan bodies and repaint them?? Is this true?? and if so.. How?

Well if you melt the lexan down, it will separate from the paint. Then you re-mold the lexan back into a body and voila!

If you can find the stuff "ELO" (Easy lift off) works awesome. Best stuff ya can get for removing paint. Otherwise ya can try brake fluid. You have to let it sit for a while and do some scrubbing, but it works.

sounds like he's talking about old paint. Soap and water wont do much for that.

Err, read the whole section. Nitro will works great to remove old non-water-based paints.

I might be careful with Goof Off - it is extremely potent.

On scale bodies (made of plastic) we use Castrol Super Clean, Brake fluid, or even 90% Isopropyl alcohol and it completely removes paint.

But, I have never done that with lexan?!?!?!?

When talking to my buddy, he said that you could use break fluid to remove old paint from lexan bodies. Think I may just grab an old body I have and give it a try.

I think brake fluid would eat lexan. I have never tried it though.

Brake fluid does NOT eat lexan. People have been doing this for years.

How do you figure Nitro will take off old paint?? Most paintjobs are backed with a backing for easy nitro wash off. I think maybe you need to try your "Tips" before you try to give them as pointers because none of what you claim will work for a body that was painted over a week ago.

When working with Water color based paints. i.e. Parma & Createx. You can in fact soak the shell in a hot tub of water and the paint will come off after awhile. There is no such thing as any paint comming off without a little bit of foggyness to it. But when you repaint a shell that has minor cuts from the exacto and has the foggyness. The new paint will fill the cuts and you wont notice the haze at all.

ELO (Easy lift off) has zero fog to it. I have done a bunch of bodies up and its never foggy. Looks like a brand new unpainted shell (Besides any nics or scratches) But the stuff is getting harder and harder to find..

I stripped a lexan body last week using brake fluid. No damage to the lexan (no hazing) and even the decals came through unscathed.

Just my two cents worth.

paint thinner is gonna eat threw the lexan. If ya dilute it with anything (Like rubbing alcohol) it isnt going to eat threw as fast, but its going to dry out your lexan and make it brittle.

I wouldn't say "most" are backed, I've used nitro to pull up tons of paint in the past. Granted, if it is your point stands, but it is worth a try if you have it around.
